COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 27, 2008 Ya know, when you were spotting for me on my Mx buck, you shouldnt have picked up my bad habits! Other than coyotes......with a rifle, that is the first animal that I've shot at and NOT killed in 18 years! I've never thought about it until now, but I missed a HUGE Coues buck in Unit 21 with my dad when I was 14 yrs old.......If i'm remembering right, that was the last animal I've missed and not ended up killing...until now Alot of that is because I normally wouldn't have taken the shots that I took on this hog if it were a game animal. Now, with a muzzeloader or bow.....that's another story altogether
COOSEFAN Report post Posted March 27, 2008 Welp.......I take that back.........I missed a small Coues buck in 34B......twice Once at 15 yards and another at about 25 yards......with a 22-250! I didn't know where to hold the crosshairs and for some reason I aimed below his chest both times! I don't know how I forgot about that one...kinda embarrasing. That was I think 8 years ago and the buck walked up behind me while I was glassing on the last day of a 4 day hunt.....I went home empty handed on that one! mattys281 Report post Posted April 1, 2008 Is there a fair population of them or is it just one or two rogue herds out there? I don't think our game animals need a habitat destroying competitor like that running around.... Get out there & shoot 'em up!

I don't think our game animals need a habitat destroying competitor like that running around.... Get out there & shoot 'em up! I initially thought there were quite a few, but after all the miles my bro and I covered last weekend, I'm thinking there are just a few small herds here and there. They do some serious damage tearing up bushes and cactus....actually ripping brush and cactus out of the ground! One thing I did notice is that on old sites were they had tore up the ground, the grass was taller, greener and more lush........so maybe they aren't that bad? I still plan on smokin' one o' them darn critters though

From what I've read, they're extremely hard on habitat & put heavy competitive pressure on indeginous species. Our deer herd's got enough trouble w/ constant drought, mountain lions & coyotes, so better safe than sorry. Fire 'em up.

For every pig a lion kills, a deer or bighorn gets to live another day!! Pigs make for way easier targets. I wouldn't worry about their impact in AZ. They are much more dependent on water than native species.
