Rembrant Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks for all the kind comments everyone. The reason the lion wasn't killed is cause it was, in my guesstimation, about a 55-65 lb female. That's like shooting a spike bull elk, with a rifle, on a trophy elk hunt during the rut in unit 10. Crotalus, your first sentance is hilarious. I didn't think anything of the situation being unsafe but there was a couple of people who saw the pics and couldn't see it for the special time it was for me and Dad and saw nothing but DANGER DANGER for my boy. Never even occured to us but maybe that's cause we're men... You are absolutely right Josh, you and your Dad you are men. Men seek adventure, a battle to fight, and a beauty to rescue. Obviously the Epperson men have no problem in passing masculinity down to their sons. Isaac is blessed just as you are. Mike
dogman68 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 In 40 years of lion hunting, that was the best lion I ever caught! To see Isaac looking up that tree brought tears to my eyes. He and that Coues Whitetail hat are inseparable. ha You don't have to kill in order to have hunted. That is the message we are trying to instill in him at an early age. Thanks everyone for all the nice comments. Grandma wasn't real pleased to see her grandson standing under a tree with a mountain lion in it but she is over it now. dogman68 Report post Posted March 18, 2008 Why didnt you lay the hammer down? Looks like a decent lion... But then agian what do I know?! probably because that lion is $2500-$3000 for a guide and they didn't have a client along. congrats Josh! Even though we are broke lion hunters, we wouldn't let a paying client kill a small female or a sub adult lion----for any price. Honestly, if that lion had been a 125 lb tom he would have been just as safe since we were alone anyway. This lion was actually an adult but she was pretty small. crotalus Report post Posted March 19, 2008 Mr. Dogman68, I'm glad you posted those comments. What happened up there was something very special, like I said those "last two pix speak a thousand words". You nailed it on the head when you said " You don't have to kill in order to have hunted"! Every time I take my daughter and son out for a hunt, I stress those exact words. Mucho respect for you and your family; your kind of honesty is fading quickly but it sure is nice to know we still have men like yourself and Josh to continue the legacy of every hunter. Thanx again for sharing a very special moment. Ernest

Jimhm Report post Posted March 20, 2008 Dogman68, those are fantastic pictures and congratulations on making a memory that will last the 3 of you a life time. Your personal hunting ethics about not having to kill to have hunted is what I wish more people would take to heart. Jim
