Texas Hog Hunt

Recommended Posts

Going on my first hog hunt at the end of the month! The wait is killing me. Trying to fill some free time before I get my Elk tag this year!LOL Any of you guys got pics of any hogs you have taken and some stories to go with them. I love to hunt Javi's so I think this will be a blast. The guys I'm going with go every year and told me I would be addicted after one trip.My wife is hoping I hate it!

They guys from Double Bull Blinds hunt this ranch from time to time.

This is the ranch we will be hunting

I have been to that ranch several times and will be there in the middle of April. Billy Don runs a great ranch with tons of hogs.

Just got back from California, had a great time. It was a tough hunt, very steep and those hogs do a lot of moving. They don't stand around very long and once they get into the oaks it's over. Glassing was great but once the stalk started they were gone. Finally hooked up on the last evening I was there. Can't wait to go back. Jason

Here are the hogs I got in Cali a few weeks ago, it was awesome and one heck of a tough hunt. 3 days to get a shot, I tried with a bow for the first 2 days no luck.

I went to a big ranch (30.000 acres) north of Abilene compliments of my Brother's work to cull does and hogs. It was similar country to the flats in Southern AZ. Lots of tall grass and mesquite thickets. There were alot of critters and bagging them with a rifle wasn't too challenging, as we hunted "safari style" (Texan for road hunting) Both hogs I shot were "meat hogs" in the 120 lb range and eat better than any domestic pork I've purchased. They were very tough however, going a long ways with no heart or lungs to speak of.

next time I'll take my bow or handgun to make it a bit more of a challenge.

thanks,

Schmitty

Well just got back from Texas. What a blast!! We had a great hunt. We ended up with 8 or 9 hogs 5 turkeys 1 Corsican Ram and 1 Texas Dall. All the hogs that were shot ranged from 80 to 120# not huge but great meat hogs. Some bigger hogs were seen but no one could connect with one. I will get the pictures of the Dall,Corsican and others posted as soon as I get permission to do so. The ranch was great!! Billy Don his son and his sons best friend were great to be around. I would recommend this ranch to anyone. Tons of animals and a ton of fun.
