duckhunter175 Report post Posted March 30, 2019 Found a great new hobby here in Texas-- Predators... have access to some spots with lots of coons, skunks, badgers and foxes. Took the .223 and 12ga last time and it was a bit overkill. Didn't see many coyotes and we are primarily hunting at night with red lights. So- I'm thinking a .17hmr might be the ticket, and suppressed might also be the way to go. Looking at: Ruger American Rimfire Target (grey laminate, threaded barrel) Savage A17 Target Sporter (laminate, semi-auto, NOT threaded....yet)-- ALSO- has anyone run this model with a suppressor, I've never run a suppressed rimfire so I'm not sure of gas issues. Tikka T1x MTR -- if I can find one Which models have I left out that might be a good fit? Thoughts on optics for nighttime hunting under a redlight?? A thermal is on the dream list but Im thinking something light and small for fast acquisition, even maybe a mini red dot?
Saguaro Report post Posted March 30, 2019 A few more models to think about... Anschutz 1710 Cooper model 57m Winchester model 52 Remington 40x the Remington and Winchester can be found in either sporters or target models.

ThomC Report post Posted March 30, 2019 I think that you should stay with what you have. In case a coyote shows up. unless you are selling furs overkill is not an issue. Better to be dead than wounded in the dark. Let me ask you a question where is best duck hunting, spring snow hunting in TX. I would like to hire an outfitter. Got any suggestions? Thanks

duckhunter175 Report post Posted March 30, 2019 Do any of the CZ models come pre-threaded?

Thanks The boys from Crooked Wing absolutely smash birds out around Lubbock!! A few buddies of mine from Midland have hunted with them. They are probably some of the best specialists at the Sandhill Crane game too! If you come further east then I think North Texas Outfitters does well too! Saguaro Report post Posted March 30, 2019 Some of the Anschutz models come threaded. https://www.anschutznorthamerica.com/sporting-models.html if you order from Cooper, they can thread the barrel as an option when you customize it.
duckhunter175 Report post Posted April 1, 2019 The Anschutz and Cooper are out of the budget- Looking for $400ish rifle, threaded and ready to spend all night in a side by side bouncing around the ranch! Ruger American and CZ are looking good. Will CZ thread if you order direct?
bustedknuckleinc Report post Posted April 1, 2019 I would stick with a pre threaded barrel as it is almost impossible to get a short barrel threaded for a suppressor. Have you looked at the Ruger precision rim fire rifles? 22LR 22Mag and 17 HMR.
ctracingraptor Report post Posted April 2, 2019 I would do a 204 Ruger in a AR platform in a heartbeat....
CouesFanatic Report post Posted April 2, 2019 The CZ cannot be beat for the money
yotebuster Report post Posted April 2, 2019 I’m in the same boat. I just ordered 4 suppressors and one of them is .22 to fire specific. I’m between a .17hmr and a .17 hornet. I think my suppressor will handle up to a .22 hornet so either should be fine. I like the look of those threaded cz’s for the money.
10Turkeys Report post Posted April 2, 2019 I've yet to see one, but Tikka was supposed to come out with a .22, and it was supposedly threaded for around 450.00. Nobody seems to have one.
duckhunter175 Report post Posted April 3, 2019 Those Tikka T1X look sweet! And impossible to find for .17HMR. LGS here is doing a sale where they pay the sales tax so I'm leaning towards the synthetic Ruger American Rimfire- not the precision but they have a pre-threaded, heavy barrel .17HMR for a shade over $300!
