I think you might want to limit voting to those who register for the contest only because it might encourage more folks to register for the contest.

Regarding the voting on categories (like best hunt story, etc)....Doug and I had talked about it before he started this thread and I was thinking that voting on the contest categories should be limited to just those who registered for the contest (this year there were about 200 people). But we could also leave it open to any registered member whether they are signed up for the contest or not. Which do you guys prefer?

You guys have done a great job with the contest every year and have great some great new ideas. I haven't entered the contest because I really don't care about what a deer scores, some of you do and that's great. I would probably enter with some of the new ideas mentioned, and would definately enter my kids when they are old enough. Amanda as far as the hunt stories being voted on, you could do it just about any way and it would work out great. One other Idea is to let every one who is registered vote and then take the top three and have some of the writers pick the best one, Outdoor writer, Bill Quimby, Chris Denham, You and maybe a couple more that I don't know.

Again Great Job on the contests and I look forward to this years.

Mike, I would have that one tied down wouldnt I!

How about a "who misses their goal of a buck by the most" lets see, I killed a low 90's type buck, when I was going for a 100+, and then killed a 45-50" buck while aiming for a 100".. lets see, I missed by about an average 30 inches ( if my math is right)

How about "most shots to kill their deer" got that one in the bag too!

Heres the thing about having people vote (TJ here comes my opnion) It will be like highschool... a popularity contest... Jimbo has that one in the bag, even if he killed a 80" buck.

I think what ever is done, the more prizes that are given out the better!

however, I also think that if there are going to be BIG prizes given out ( $1,000 in optics based strictly on score) that the bucks in the top running need to be scored by an "official".

I AM NOT ACCUSING ANYONE OF CHEATING, SO THAT CAN BE SQUASHED RIGHT NOW!

I also think the best pic should be awarded to the person who took the picture and not necessarily the hunter who killed the deer.

also, I know this is a coues whitetail site but what about a "other" big game best picture. as long as the season falls in the same timeframe of the contest why not open the best pics up to antelope, elk, sheep, javelinas, etc.

I like the idea of best hunt story as one of the prizes. Overall the contest is great and gets better each year. The involvment of the kids category makes it special.

I also love the idea of best hunt story. Although, I worry that the contest will turn into an English 102 final paper. I believe that there is a difference between best "hunt story" and best "written hunt story". Some of the best stories are told by those that wouldn't necessarily be considered writers. A good hunt story is a good hunt story, regardless of proper grammar, sentence structure and punctuation.
