Taxidermist Help

Recommended Posts

Hello every one. I love the site and I have been a member for a while but this is my 1st post. Me and 11 year old son went out yesterday afternoon and did some calling. Was able to get a coyote to come in on our first stand after 15 min of rodent distress calling. My son made a great shot with his .243 at 110 yards to put him down. :D It was so exciting to see my son take his 1st big game animal. So our first coyote is in the freezer whole. Was hoping to get a full mount for him. Was hoping to get some names of some good taxidermist in the east valley.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Coyotes are tricky. I am yet to see one that I have liked. I think it has been more the "pose" chosen than the taxidermy work.

Congrats to your son on a GREAT shot and on his first big/small game!!!! ;) If you get buyers remorse when you start shopping the prices of a full body mount, you may want to consider just having it tanned with the claws on. Then your boy can hang it anywhere he wants. We did that with my boy's first archery Yote and it still hangs in our living room today. ;) Just a thought.... Taxi's are getting soooo Pricey!!!

Congrats again to you and your boy on a successful hunt!! Gotta love getting the kids affield!

Thanks every one. I like this idea of tanning it with the claws on. I was wondering if I take it to the taxidermist frozen will the skin it for me or do i need to thaw him and skin him myself. And if so do you know any links that has a step by step how to on skinning a coyote. Thanks again

The taxidermist will skin it for you. Just keep it frozen until you take it to the taxidermist and they will do the rest. Congrats to your boy!

When I had mine done recently my taxidermist instructed me to make a small cut and pull as much of the guts out that I could and he would do the rest. Since you already have him frozen I don't think it really matters if the guts are out or not, just take him in frozen and you will be fine. Good job on the yote and I hope you call in many more!100_1008.jpg

Thanks, I'm real happy with it! Greg has done several animals for me over the years and I've always been more than pleased with his work. I can't wait to get my lion and Kaibab buck back from him!

A generous taxidermist trying to promote his business and hunting.....

Just a side note story, in the past due to lack of funds, we have taken our skulls to a guy up here and he beetles the skulls for us in trade for capes of our deer and elk etc.

But, from our last pig hunt, my 10 year old took his pig over to the taxi and the taxi asked me if he would let him do a "free" shoulder mount of my boys first big game animal.

Wow, what a surprise, we haven't told my boy yet, and I told my taxi that I would be more than willing to pay, but he insisted that he wanted to do it as a gift to my boy.

We are friends and work together in the same school district, but he is really going to make one little 10 year old happy.

I am sure as my boys get older and want to really get a taxi job they will go back to him for their projects....

As for the coyote thing, I did the pelt idea with my boys first coyote as well......I like that option....
