AZantlerhead Report post Posted February 14, 2008 I'm starting this topic because I feel it has been the center of topic for shed hunters in recent years. This is my Opinion and my stance on the issue. Someone who uses them to access OPEN , LEGAL back-roads is OK. To those Lazy lowely forms of life running grids across hundreds of acres of virgin soil Scarring the earth for years with each pass, scareing the crap outa the game, leaking oil and gas through the washes, leaving their beer cans everywhere . & pretending thier running a rally race with a three year old on your lap, you should be Hung. Get OFF your butt. You'll find more sheds anyway! I use a 20lb pack and frame to horn hunt. also a pack horse. I'm even thinking about buying a quad to access OPEN FOREST ROADS I'd rather not take my truck down. But you will NEVER ever catch me OFF THE ROADS! Or Putting a childs life at risk. Has anyone had a family member die on a quad? I'm sure most by now sadly can tell that tale. most young children with no sense of fear or danger & stupid parents. In a nutshell Quads should be used in a lawfull, responsible, and ethical manner. They are a great tool and have many uses. tearing up the earth and risking lives of children is not one of them. Antlers are wonderfull enchanting artifacts of nature wich we can lawfully harvest. Lets not ruin that. Anything good in life takes effort and hard work, the reward is much greater, in antler numbers and satisfaction! Illegal-unethical use of ATV's is Wrong! Don't sell youre soul out of lazziness and carelessness. Respect the woods, Then others and God will respect you. This is my opinion, what's your's?

HUNTMUP Report post Posted February 15, 2008 I agree 150%. It is those unresponsible individuals that will help seal the deal on closing down the woods. PERIOD. I use a UTV, but only to get to and from my hunting areas and stay on existing roads. The recreational ATVers are mostly responsible (not completely) for the Gov. psuhing the issue on the closures however we all will suffer the outcome. SilentButDeadly Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Here is a guy we saw on our mountain that we climbed up during the 6a muzzleloader season. No trails or roads, this guy went straight up the hill that we took 30 minutes to climb. It was actually kind of humorous. He drove all the way up to the top of the mountain, then got off his quad and climbed one of those Junipers (like the ones you can see), looked around with his binos for 2 minutes, then climbed back on his quad and started back down the hill - after radioing to his buddies that there weren't any elk to be found. We walked right by him, he never knew we were there. I got this video of him as he went puttering back down the mountain. http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/i1oXoOPMDCdRWMUOsRoSVg
IHunt2live Report post Posted February 15, 2008 When I was growing up I was told that I should be a cop because I was so strait laced. Well... I don't know what has happened to me because now I feel that if I every see people doing stuff like that and I know were they are camped, I'll sneak into their camp in the middle of the night a slash all four tires on there quads. Hunting6 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Also agree... Had a list of things to say, but too many on the subject. My main problem on this issue is that the sheer laziness in human beings disgusts me. Bad leg and all I will still hoof my way to the top of a hill, or where ever no roads exist. It's sad to see places in the middle of nowhere that you had to hike to in order to get to a glassing spot, where now there is a two tracker on it. You could spend your time confronting idiots like that until you are blue in the face, and they just don't get it. You end up in a "HEATED" discussion time and time again. Now because of this, roads are already being closed down because of too much road usage from all vehicles. It's simple, there will always be people who continue to take the wrong road for the right reasons without an ounce of thought about the impact on all of our resources, land & animals alike. People like us are taking the brunt of it in many ways. The world is changing and always will, you either grow up living within it, or living on it. Laws won't change peoples internal thoughts thats for sure. Wish it were different......
Lance Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Obey and stay within the laws! Plain and simple. Lance
Snapshot Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Even though I am not much of a shed hunter, unless I happen to stumble across something, I do have a quad. I use it to take me into scouting areas, ends of roads and trails, exploring etc., but I keep it on the legal trails and roads and not offroad. It is the people that make up their own rules and have no respect for the land and laws that will eventually ruin it for those of us that are repsonsible riders. The only time I would take my quad off road is to retrieve downed game, and only if it was allowed, and not during a wet time, so as not to make deep tracks or ruts. I have seen what irresponsible ohv riders have done to meadows and cienegas and such and it is pretty sad !
Coues Sniper Report post Posted February 15, 2008 I'm with you dude, 100% Has anyone had a family member die on a quad? I'm sure most by now sadly can tell that tale. My cousin died from a 4 wheeler accident - no helmet. He was 26 years old and married for 3 weeks. Loads of people i know have been hurt. Some pretty serious. anthonyrmatthews Report post Posted February 16, 2008 I have to agree!!! There is nothing that ticks me off more that making an hour hike into somewhere with that feeling of knowing you're going to have a good day of finding sheds, then seeing fresh quad tracks that grid the area already. It makes me sick to my stomach everytime. I have a couple of quads, but use them legally if at all. I do all of my shed hunting by foot! Thanks for the post! Hightracker Report post Posted February 16, 2008 I also agree 100%. The outdoors were made to be seen from the sole of our boots and not the tread of a tire. Keep the tire tread on the legal roads, so that we who enjoy hiking can greatly appreciate God's creation.

DesertBull Report post Posted February 17, 2008 I don't think there is any difference between a quad and a truck or a jeep as long as they are on the roads and trails that are they supposed to be on. I use mine a lot, but only because I don't like beating up my truck that I drive everyday.
