jamaro Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Hey Guys... As many of you know there was a GAIN meeting this week in Santa Clara, not the Reservation the one outside of Silver City. Anyway, I went to see what was brewing and give my 2 cents. The basic issue is that the Dept of Game and Fish is trying to find a way for non-consumptive users of the Department's land to pay there fair share. They are proposing that if you are on Game and Fish land and you DON'T have a hunting or fishing license that you have to purchase a permit. From what I see it is focused on hikers, birdwatchers and mountain bikers. Personally, I like the idea. I posted the story on my website. Visit My Website On the site I have PDF's that detail what properties might be effected and permit costs... Jason
hunter4life Report post Posted February 14, 2008 Unfortunately I missed the Abq. meeting. In the PDF's on your site and on the G&F site I could not find where they state that if you hold a general hunting or fishing license that you are exempt from needing a GAIN permit. If this were true I would be for it, especially if there were no fee for children under age 12 and a reduced fee for Juniors aged 12-17. This would put the regulations in line with the fishing regulations regarding juniors and children. It is time to make all these other users have to put up some money and not make the hunters carry the whole load.
jamaro Report post Posted February 14, 2008 The actual rules are on the Departments website but you need to filter thru all the legal stuff.... Kids under 18 don't need a permit. Also, in draft form there was not difference in Resident and NR Fees.... The people at the meeting were not sure if that was going to change. I also asked about the commercial permits, they didn't know if this pertained to photographers selling there work or just people leading trips on the Game and Fish Properties.
