azpackhorse Report post Posted October 31, 2004 I was going to camp but have since changed my mind, it only takes me 45min. to get to my hunting spot (1 hour if I drive the speed limit) so I will be hunting from home and after work. I was in my unit Friday and Saturday and helped my buddies son harvest his first deer, He made a good 150 - 200 yd shot with his .260 rem. We had him on a real nice 3 x 4 earlier in the am but just couldn't make it happen, he was more than happy with the nice forkie he ended up taking. It didn't take long for the deer to move out and I can't say I blame them, we even took cover a couple of times! I did see one of the biggest mule deer since I have lived in Arizona, hopefully he will still be around in a few weeks for the juniors hunt. We got a 10yr old that wants a "big ol muley" Good luck to all
fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 1, 2004 Unfortunately I have to work opening weekend so I am heading to the Chiricauha's on the 16th and packing in a few miles and hopefully will see some toads. Haven't been in there for a few years so it should be an interesting hunt. Hopefully will get to see how the new .300 wsm performs on big whitetail. ag

sczoner Report post Posted November 3, 2004 Grew up in Huntington Beach and went to USC. Then got out of that crazy state, bad traffic, bad politics, anti-gun, and to top it off it's overpriced. Mike
Red Rabbit Report post Posted November 4, 2004 The plan is to get down "there" Thursday and backpack into "there". The problem is, where is "there". Hunting partner and I could go where we've gone many times before, but wanderlust has captured my heart. So, I'm still peering over topo maps and looking for an X that marks the spot (I've seen plenty X's on the map, but I think they represent mines ( Jerrry Reid sings-"She gets the gold mine... and I get the shaft" ) Anyone have a dart to throw? Kevin Report post Posted November 8, 2004 Fatfootdoc, Which side of the Chiricauha are you packing into? It looks like the weather the first weekend is going to be perfect for backpacking, if your into rain/snow that is! I'll try to tough it out. Good luck on your hunt. Daniel in Ak Report post Posted November 8, 2004 Unfortunatly my hunting is done here in Alaska for the year,so I plan on watching what you guys post.Ya'll talking about the Chiricahuas got my blood boiling.I have forgotten more back roads and places to hunt in Cochise County than you guys care to know. But here is a little spot for ya'll.South of I-10 on the North east area of the Chiricahuas, thats the East side of the Mountain and make sure your North of Rucker Lake(yeah I know thats on the other side. This is a good area and heck on packing due to lack of roads and trails.but the deer are there.Oh! and did I mention bears?,and Lions? yeah! keep your eyes open.Good Luck ya'll.Daniel
