Coues 'n' Sheep

2007 Desert Sheep Super Raffle

Recommended Posts

Back in mid-summer of last year the Super Raffle results were discussed on a thread here on CW.com and a new member ehunt posted that he was the lucky winner of the desert sheep tag in the raffle. The Supper Raffle hunter may only hunt specific Nelsoni units in Northern AZ. I was the very fortunate to get to hunt with Eric Hunt on this awesome "Once in a Lifetime" hunt. Many days were spent afield in different units and many rams were passed. I have to say that Eric is a man of physical and mental toughness. He hunted hard and glassed harder. He earned a First Rate Ram back in Mid-November.... One of the Largest Nelsoni Desert rams taken in AZ in 2007. He folded this ram up with a one shot kill at over 300 yds. It was a Pleasure and an Honor to be apart of such a special hunt and I gained a new friendship with a first rate hunter in the process. Congrats Eric and thanks for Finally agreeing to post your ram!

I am sure Eric can tell the story of his hunt better than I can.... hopefully he will. ;)

I appollogize for the bad light in some of the pics.... we were in the mouth of a deep canyon, with a 1000 foot vertical drop infront and 600 ft vertical climbs on both sides. With light fading in the canyon fast we did the best we could, but the brightness of the giant gorge below stole alot of color from the pics.

Congratulations to Eric on a fine looking ram. That had to have been a pleasure to be along on such a memorable hunt of a life time Gino.

Great ram Eric.

I know you and Gino worked your butts off to get that ram and every time I called Gino to see how it was going

he would tell me what you guy's endured every day in the field. :o (amazing) If I ever get a tag I will have to have

you , Gino and Colton there to pack my butt up them hills. ( I can go down just fine) ;)

Anyhow the next time you are in my area stop in and we can throw a could one back. Maybe we could all get

together and do another BBQ the next time your blowing thru to go to Wickenburg.

so those are scars on his face? Pretty swollen looking...

sweet ram.

The "swollen look" is from a badly broken nose.... It was completely healed. The entire hump on his nose is solid bone. It was the toughest sheep head I have ever caped..... it took an extra 10-15 minutes just cape that big scar with all the jagged ridges of bone right under it! I hope that the guys at the taxidermy shop can make that ram look as awesome as he was in real life with that wicked Roman nose!!

Erik. that is an awesome ram for the unit that you hunted. sounds like all the effort you and gino gave paid big dividends! it is always great to hear that even the auction tag winners are down to earth and are great people and not just a $ throughing machine trying to impress people they don't really like anyways... again, that is a great accomplishment to your hard work! a true lifetime ram. mike
