treestandman1 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Any of you guys shot the Tikka t3 in the .270 or .300 wsm? How bad is the recoil?
fatfootdoc Report post Posted October 29, 2004 I have a Tikka T3 300 WSM, the recoil with 150 gr bullets is a little worse than a 30-06, but not nearly bad enough to cause flinching. The rifle has an awesome action and is superbly accurate, however the magazine will prevent quick reloads and only holds 3 shells. I will use this on my Whitetail hunt in November though. Overall the rifles are light, this will increase the recoil a little, I have the 24 in barrel , you can get a 22 inch barrel but will sacrifice some accuracy for less weight. treestandman1 Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Thanks for the reply. Do you use the manufactured recoil pad or did you have a different on installed?
fatfootdoc Report post Posted October 29, 2004 Everything is straight from the factory, I usually shoot the rifle along with my others after I get done reloading, I start with it first and then move down in caliber. But it really does not kick much harder than my 30-06, of course I have the walnut stock so a synthetic is going to kick a little more of course. ag
.270 Report post Posted November 1, 2004 my oldest son has one with the synthetic stock. it's a very light rifle and it barks pretty hard with reloads. i have a real bad right shoulder and it hurt me sufficiently. sighting it in got him to flinching some, and he's real tough on recoil. he installed a simms pad and calmed it way down. doesn't bump too hard now. he used some 130 gr. handloads on a wyoming muley hunt in early oct. took a 180+ muley and his friend used the same rifle to shoot a 27" muley on the same hunt. same friend shot a nice coues friday with it. but used some 100 gr reloads. the simms pad seemed to help reduce the recoil a bunch. treestandman1 Report post Posted November 1, 2004 I shot my Tikka .270 wsm on Saturday. Very pleased w/ the accuracy. The kick was not bad at all. The clip that came w/ the gun did not seem to work correctly however.
fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 1, 2004 What kind of problem were you having with the clip? ag
treestandman1 Report post Posted November 1, 2004 The winchester .270 wsm rounds would not slide into the clip very easily at all. When I finally got them into the clip, the spring was not working correctly to push the other bullets to the correct spot. I will be going back to Bear Mountain to see about getting a new clip. fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 1, 2004 That is the only bad thing I can see on my gun as well, they make a dang good gun and then put a plastic magazine on it. Does not make much sense to me. AG
treestandman1 Report post Posted November 1, 2004 I wonder if they have any upgraded clips? I will be checking on it.
fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 1, 2004 It would be nice if they had an extra capacity clip that was a little more durable. Those extra rounds would be nice to have when the buck fever hits. Let me know what you find out. Thanks AG
treestandman1 Report post Posted November 2, 2004 AG, I took my magazine into Bear Mountain yesterday and they discovered that the magazine that had come w/ my .270 wsm was actually a .270 clip. Now that I have the correct clip it works just fine. I did email Berretta wanting to know if they had any other magazines that would perhaps hold more cartidges. I'll let you know what they say. fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 2, 2004 It is amazing how having the right caliber magazine will make the bullets load better. I was thinking about the magazines and I will look up the Tikka web site and see what they have there. AG
fatfootdoc Report post Posted November 2, 2004 Was on the internet and there are magazines for the 300 and 270 wsm at ammoclip.com for $60 , they do not have any more capacity though. They say they are factory original polymer(PLASTIC ) Might be nice to have a spare clip. That was the cheapest I could find. The others listed the price at over one hundred usually. ag
shlep89 Report post Posted January 7, 2006 there are extended 5 clips availible for the t3, and they cost just about the same as the 3 shot clips. the are ugly and not flush, but they can get the job done. www.betettausa.com or ebay.com
