Jacob...soaz Report post Posted October 12, 2018 Any az unit 34a or 34b hunters on here? I moved to Vail about 2 years ago and have been spending some time in both. What are your thoughts on the units? This side of both units got extremely dry but we have been getting some good late rains. stock tanks are filling back up and grass is finally getting green. elecshoc Report post Posted October 12, 2018 They're good but both are high traffic units with lots of tags allocated. The deer are there it's just a matter of being able to sit and glass a good amount.

But yes i see tons of deer in there both units. I see a lot of mule deer in 34b and whitetail in 34a.

Lucafu1 Report post Posted October 13, 2018 I noticed a decline in mule deer in 34B and an increase in WTs. But it's been a while since I have been there. I need to go back.

cpg5386 Report post Posted October 18, 2018 I'll be hunting 34A this year for the first time too in the southern part. Have only been able to get out once and scout, but saw a spike and a doe in my limited 4 hour time limit. I'll be hunting first week (starts next Friday) and will just be happy to get out in the wild again. Good luck on your hunt!

cpg5386 Report post Posted November 5, 2018 On 11/1/2018 at 8:25 AM, lamrith said: How did you do on your hunt? Did you find your spike or better? No luck for me this year. The best day I had was last Monday when I saw three does. The first few days I hunted near Mansfield Canyon. The deer I had scouted didn't show up. The last day I hunted, which was last Monday, I went out Fish Canyon and was near Melendez Pass and spent a morning. Kicked up two bedded does as I walked in and glassed another while I sat for a few hours. Unfortunately only one day this year I had my hunting partner and was able to walk in a distance, the rest I was on my own so stayed closer to the roads, though I did walk in at least 1/2 to a 1/4 mile to where I would sit. There is definitely pressure, I heard/saw UTV's, ATV's, side by sides, etc., everyday I hunted. Lots of them are just road hunters that will drive around, park, glass, and then drive to the next spot, can be mildly irritating especially when they park and glass right below you when you've walked up the side of a hill. Had to stand up a few times and wave my bright orange hat in the air to show them there was someone up there. All drove off after they saw me, so at least they were courteous. elecshoc Report post Posted November 6, 2018 Hunted 34A on the first hunt. Saw does all through the week and only one buck. Didn't get a shot on the buck since we were walking back to the truck from glassing the morning and walked into him. We had mexican standoff with him at 30 yards and him standing behind a tree. He picked the one line that gave him cover so we never were able to get a shot off. Other than that alot of glassing does and other hunters. Just seemed like the deer were content with bedding down until actual sundown. We hunted from Kentucky camp south and got as far down as hog canyon. We were limited a little bit as well since my hunting partner came down with a cold and I hated trying to push him to go to far back off the road.
