TwoGuns Report post Posted January 28, 2008 Pretty amazing the amount of rain in northern AZ the last 24 hours. It is good to see the moisture for the deer populations....that is if they dont get washed away. Here are some amazing numbers on the water sheds around Camp Verde... Dry Beaver Creek normal flow: 0 cfs Peak flow @ 11pm: 7000 cfs Wet Beaver Creek normal flow: 40 cfs peak @ 10:30pm: 5000 cfs Oak Creek normal flow: 44 cfs peak @ 11pm: 1050 cfs West Clear Creek normal flow: 19 cfs peak @ 11pm: 10,000 cfs East Verde River normal flow: 100 cfs peak @ 11:30: 16,000 cfs Verde River @ Tangle Creek (South of Camp Verde) normal flow: 2340 cfs Rising flow @ 12am: 33,800 cfs (still rising @ 17' deep) Truly some amazing numbers. Seems as though most of the area around here got 2.5 to 3 inches today. All this rather trivial information was taken from the USGS website: http://water.usgs.gov/waterwatch/?m=real&r=az Yes, I am bored and cant sleep. The roar of the creek (dry beaver creek) outside my door is incredible. Twoguns
Kevin Report post Posted January 28, 2008 I'm guessing that much of the runoff is from the melting snowpack? Rain this time of year sure does undo alot in just a little bit. Kevin
GameHauler Report post Posted January 28, 2008 People calling to the radio station are saying 3 to 4 inches in Payson
Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 28, 2008 I think that the rain atop the snow was a blessing, as the runoff will help fill the tanks and lakes. We still have 5" of snow in my open backyard here in Flag, so it was not all lost. If we keep getting more snow (March is the big snow month, historically), then a spring rain, things will be great. The lakes in the White Mountains can use the runoff, Upper Lake Mary is about 18%, and lower Lake Mary is empty. A lot to the snow sublimes into the atmosphere and does not melt into the ground or run-off. This fall has been nice with a heavy rain early to saturate the ground, cold weather to freeze it, and now snow and rain atop it. Doug~RR
