Water dried up that has been steady for decades. Fawn survival will be minimal and deer health was poor until July when the spotty rains started. If this tag was drawn by mistake turn it back. That's my take. Few places in the unit have deer in any number like is mentioned above. To say you don't want "honey holes" is silly, any place that's holding deer is a honey hole. You will encounter a lot of locked gates and little chance to gain access. We could talk about the various reasons but most are due to previous conflicts between land owners and hunters leaving gates open, driving ATV's off road and a sense of entitlement by both sides. To think you might solve these issues in the next 6 weeks would be naive. If you do come I'd like you to consider this one thing, without the ranches pumping water for cattle the deer, elk and antelope numbers would be 10% of what they are now. Man, you are right Bro! I grew up there & wouldn’t spill the beans cause the good spots are slowly dwindling! Not that this helps, but this buck was killed In there last year. This is the gun smiths brother. 1 1

nvmulie Report post Posted September 17, 2018 Well we went up this weekend to check things out and ran into a buddy of mine in Springerville, he took us to areas where he and his brother had seen deer. Which gave us some hope for the hunt, did not see any deer, but saw plenty of tracks around the water tanks he took us to.

bigbuckfever Report post Posted October 1, 2018 I was up hunting for a cow elk for a few days and found a nice mulie kill on an open slope. It had crows picking at it, which was how I spotted it. Surprised to see it in such an open area and it hadn't been found before. If you want location NV, call me and I'll tell you where it was. 602-319-4096.
nvmulie Report post Posted November 14, 2018 Hunt update, hunted hard for 9 days saw a total of 10 deer, 3 bucks and 7 doe's. A good friend caught up with me on the last day and with his 50+ years of hunting the area and understanding the deer patterns after they get water he led me to this buck. He is not the monster that is on display at the Ron's place but a nice one just the same. Thank you for all of the suggestions and yes the OnX Hunt app is the real
