daryl_s Report post Posted January 28, 2008 I'm done with 36A. I had the November hunt there in 07 and decided it will be my last time in that unit. On our first scouting trip down there we found a dead body(actually it was right off the batamote road). On opening weekend I gave an illegal in the same area some water and then told BP where he was at, they later picked him up. After that first trip down there I couldn't shake this uneasy feeling that I had the whole time I was down there. It took a lot of enjoyment of the hunt away. I'm still planning on hunting down south, just not 36A.
novice Report post Posted January 29, 2008 Our group had a very similar experience a couple of years ago and we left Sunday at noon. Didn't even to bother going the next weekend. We will never put in for that area ever again. We were in the very same area you are talking about. Unbelievable how many empty water bottles, backpacks, etc that littered almost every little draw. What a shame.
TATAat27 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 I have been hunting the 36's for almost 20 years and its just terrible what has happened down there, you really have get lucky not to see or run into illegals or illegal activity. Its terrible to see canyons that use to be filled with wildlife littered with trash. It seems that every unit south of tucson has a really bad problem not just 36a. I remember going hunting as a teenager and not a worry in the world about illegals. What a shame.
NRS Report post Posted January 30, 2008 I had the fall HAM hunt in 36A, saw illegals all three trips down. Three of them did not have backpacks with them and were trying to hitch hike to the main road so they could get a free ride back to Mexico and pick another load of dope. msgbarney Report post Posted January 30, 2008 I feel everyone's frustration. I just got here to Huachuca and hunt 35A and it's the same. I was surprised to still see deer amongst all the trash, and clothes. Had 2 illegals walk right by me last weekend while I was bowhunting. So I left the canyon and found a BP truck stopped them and told them the werabouts, considering by this time it was already dark they just drove up and back down the canyon. They next day on my way to work at 6am, saw the same two illegals walking down highway 92. Still wearing their baseball caps, jackets, and backpacks.
Hunting6 Report post Posted January 30, 2008 Yea, it really can suck especially when you are seconds away from shooting a good deer and all of the sudden, the deer scatter and disappear only to have several illegals re-appear in the same spot. I have caught them trying to steal water from my cooler in the middle of the night.

Basser15 Report post Posted February 4, 2008 During the December hunt a buddy and i were driving into a range and saw a group of Border Patrol trucks coming off the hill. We stopped to wait for them to pass and when they did we saw a couple of agents sitting in the back of one truck with approximately 15 bails of weed that they had just collected. We decided that we weren't going to hunt that area since the agents were probably all over the area throughout the day and when we left we caught back up with BP as they were loading it all into another vehicle. The crazy part was that when we ended up talking with one of the agents that it seemed to be just another day at the office for them and busts like this happen ALL the time down there. I'm probably not putting in for it again due to that and the uneasy feeling that some of you guys had mentioned about while being down there hunting. Takes away from the experience a little bit.
