AzTrapper Report post Posted January 27, 2008 Well I like the FOXPRO line of calls they have worked well for me in the past, I am just starting to call this next week due too having back operations in Dec. So i know if I still like them coming soon AzTrapper Thanks AzTrapper, and good luck on your hunt with that back! Ok I will chime in here, call the guys at http://www.allpredatorcalls.com/ and they will custom program the calls on a Foxpro that will work good in Arizona. They are hunters themselves and were located in Tucson before moving to Salt Lake. I have a FX3 and I plan on sending it in to upgrade it to the FX5 because I like the volume control knob on the remote. Yeah, they seem to have some of the best prices too. I think their price for a camo version is cheaper than the regular version on the foxpro website. The fact that they would recommend which calls to program in would help me out alot as well. And that's good info on the FX5 vs. FX3, I was trying to decide whether or not the extra $200 is worth it. Thanks about the back it is coming along pretty good I had a spinal stem implant to control pain and it is working I feel more like walking and doing things Did miss my cow elk hunt as the implant was done during the hunt. The guys at All Predator Calls are very helpful on programing and do not try and rush the programing unit. Have a basic idea of what you are wanting to call and what sounds you might want to use when you call and ask for any help, I have my FoxPro 3 program for hunting several species of animals includeing elk, bear, deer, pigs, turkey bobcat, greyfox and last of course coyote. Most of the predator sounds work for any predator but having some sounds for each as well is nice. I have in the past called all in the list and have had a ball doing so. So think about having your call set up for different animals. Some sounds work better certain times of the year like the Bobcat in heat I have a friend who has killed over 15 bobcat in the last 3 weeks on that sound alone. If you in the Sahuraita area an want to look and maybe go out calling to see how it works let me know. AzTrapper
josh Report post Posted January 28, 2008 I'll add a reply for the Minaska Bandit. It has worked real well the past couple years. In fact I called another bobcat last night, but it saw me as soon as i saw it and busted me at less than six feet. I am going back after it and might try the bobcat in heat instead of distress. Hey AZtrapper do you run the cat in heat continuos and stay for a long time. Thanks Josh

Glad to hear it is working for you, and i hope you're back hunting hard again soon. I'd like to go calling with you, but i live all the way up here in Vegas... but i actually still might take you up on that! Thanks for the information about the Bobcat in heat sound. I think lions court this time of year too, but they might be almost done. And like Josh asked, do you play that sound continuously, or on and off? For how long? Bobcat is one of the main things i'd like to call... does a decoy help a lot with them? Thanks.

Bobcat is one of the main things i'd like to call... does a decoy help a lot with them? Thanks. I due run the Bobcat in heat for the full time on the stand which for cats is 30-45 minutes, I feel if you do not they lose interest and you have lost them. They also have a Mountain Lion in heat as well that also works well. Cats we have found go into heat between the end of Jan. thur the end of the season. We leave the call run when we make a stand even in so called coyote country because of the cats that are there. It doen't seem to bother coyotes or fox leaving the call run and again I believe it helps on the cats. Yes we use decoys of some type most of the time it is a couple of long chicken feathers or turkey tail feathers, I also add a little bit of trapping lure as well to the decoy stick even with cats not having the nose of a k-9. The lure can be plain beaver caster, catnip or one of the other cat type lures. My basic set-up is such I sit the caller 30-50 yards away depending on the country with the decoy at the call with some lure placed there also. Wind wise we do not worry about it but do try and set up with sun to our back and a cross wind if we can, we also spray a mix of urines and lures around where we sit to help mask and or confuse our scent (just one or two quick sprays into the brush and air is all) then we start call and watch. Hope that helps some, AzTrapper
ronaldo Report post Posted January 28, 2008 a friend of my dads still uses the tape player and the cone speaker and we have done pretty well with that. he has been using it ever since i can remember. I have used this type of caller exclusevily for years and have called and killed lions, foxes, coyotes, bobcats, feral dogs, and many other types of game. My son and I call quite a bit and i cannot justify 700 bucks for a Foxpro, no way. You cant go wrong with an old tape player.. Ron

HICAP40 Report post Posted January 29, 2008 last week i went out driving down a gasline road and a bobcat ran across the road , i jumped out of the truck with an ar-15 scanned the area real well and no sign of the cat. decided to put out the foxpro with a wounded woodpecker decoy. got setup starting putting my camo gloves on and the cat ran acroos the road, right by the decoy. i LOOKED TO THE RIGHT TO SEE WHERE HE WENT AND HE WAS SNEAKING UP ON THE DECOY. NEEDLESS TO SAY I Missed twice less than 25 yards. what a rush. johnny sorry about the caps

Have you ever had a cat bust you and then gone back after it and been sucessful? Thanks again Josh Yes we have been busted by them more times than I wish to admit to! What we do is wait a day or two and then go back into that area and setup within a couple of hundered yards or so to the last stand where we had been busted at. We also use a different sound and decoy as well. We have some places we have been able to call in several cats over the course of a season or seasons. We try and run our calling lines just like we used to run our trap lines and that seems to work pretty well. We keep track of sounds we use on the calling lines and change them if we are busted or miss a shot, but will use the same sound when we harvest on that stop. You will find some stops that will produce almo0st everytime and some you did to drop or change. But keep track of stops that produce and with what type of sound. Don't be afraid to also try a totally different sound when calling predators we have called in coyotes and cats down in the desert using a lost turkey sound or raccoon sound. Another thing we do is when calling we may change the sound after 15 minutes or so, Maybe start of with a sound thats totally different then change to say a rabbit sound.
