Coues Sniper Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Been wanting to get an electronic caller for a while but haven't pulled the trigger yet because I'm just not sure which one to get. I'd like to get a nice one. Which in your opinion is the best one and why? What features are most important to you? Thanks in advance for the imput guys. awoltoday Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I'm guessing you're going to hear a lot of Foxpro FX5 or scorpion responses. And you'll hear from a bunch of folks that won't choke up the bucks for those and what they settled on. I'm going the cheap route... I just got done building my own version of Varmint Al's El Cheapo caller. If I can get anything to come to it, I'll spend an extra $100 and convert it to wireless. I only have $50 into at the moment. CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 25, 2008 My neighbor just left here a few minutes ago showing me his brand new caller. It's awesome. It's compact and has a remote control so you can be up to 500 yds from your caller. It's got tons of digital calls on it and sounds pretty darn good. He loves it and he has been predator calling forever. He has some hearing trouble and he really likes how the remote displays the level of the volume so he knows how it's playing even if he can't hear it. The one he is using is the Foxpro FX-5. It's big bucks though, like $700+. Amanda
jamaro Report post Posted January 25, 2008 We were talking about getting one the other day but they are so expensive... I don't mind spending money... but $500 for a CD player???? Has anybody tried one of those old school CD Players??? I am sure we could find some Calls on the internet to burn to a CD.... Jason
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 25, 2008 I bet you could do it with an ipod and some small external speakers. Just get a predator call CD and load it up to your Ipod or other mp3 player. Amanda

Amanda That's exactly what the El Cheapo caller I mentioned is. One speaker, one amplifier, one cable, and one MP3 player. To make it wireless, most are using wireless microphone setups - you'll have the MP3 player and transmitter in your hand with the receiver plugged into the amp/speaker. I've downloaded free calls from Varmint Al's, Ernie Wilson's, and Western Rivers.

cgmartin Report post Posted January 25, 2008 it depends how serious you are into calling on what caller to chose. i have used or hunted with almost all of them out there. for me i chose the foxpro because of how easy it is to add sounds and the options on the remote, in my opinion it has the best remote out there. but if you don't do a lot of calling then it is hard to justify spending 700.00. but if you consider the the going rate for fur it can pay for its self in as little as 1 year depending on how often you hunt. muledeerarea33? Report post Posted January 25, 2008 just stay away from the cass creek calls. i have had stuff come in with them but dont really know how. they sound horrible and the speakers distort badly. I did use the varmint als calls on an mp3 player with the cass creek external speaker and it sounded pretty good. a friend of my dads still uses the tape player and the cone speaker and we have done pretty well with that. he has been using it ever since i can remember. Coues Sniper Report post Posted January 25, 2008 Thanks guys, keep the responses coming! That's why i love this place so much: I have 10 responses already on this thread here and i posted the same question on a varmint site and have gotten only 2 responses so far. Everyone here is willing to help with none of the attitude of other boards. You guys are awesome. cgmartin, that's a good point about the call starting to pay for itself. I hunt in central Nevada, and some bobcat pelts here can bring $500.

" Thats probably because all those "hard core" predator hunters in the hunt clubs hate those things. I have a guy I work with in XPC club and they all use mouth and reed calls and alot of them make their own calls. I personally like the mouth calls but thats just my own preference. You're probably right, but I'm betting that even though they may hate them or think they are for rookies, they still know a boatload about them . More than me anyways.
