Question for Auto Mechanics

Recommended Posts

Funds are tight right now. I just had to pay for some medical bills. I will have to do what I can on my own for now. Its been awhile since I serviced the Trans. This weekend I am going to pull the pan, and flush the trans, and new fluid and filter.

Plus it will be a little cooler on Saturday, which means less sweat rolling in the eyeballs. LOL.

I don't think we have to pay medical bills anymore. Just tell them to put it on the Obama care. Or yo no intiende.

I don't ride the Socialist Obama train, even though my employer offered me insurance under the Obamacare mandate....at$5-10k deductible. No thanks.

Speed sensor is on the side of the transmission but sometimes the p0500 can fool you and be a faulty tps sensor but the speed sensor is cheaper. Start there if it doesn't work than I would be leaning towards a tps sensor.

The symptoms you're describing are kinda confusing. Hard to start? Like it cranks slow? How's the battery? Starter going out? P0500 won't cause any starting or running issues unless the wiring is damaged and shares the same circuit as something else that can cause problems. Honestly I would check out the idle air control valve on the throttle body. I am not that familiar with dodges because they're junk (Haha jk) but this was a problem on a family members truck (had a smaller v8). I took it apart and cleaned it but ended up just replacing it.

I replaced the trans speed sensor last weekend. It was only $20, and a 5 minute repair, but it didnt fix the problem. It still throws out the DTC of P0500, which is the sensor.

What is the tps, and where would it be located?

It starts really hard as if the engine was being held back from turning. I put a new starter in it 2 years ago. The battery is a 7 year old Interstate. Its putting out 14V, but Im not sure about cranking amps. I would have to have it tested.?

Throttle position sensor is located drivers side of engine even with the master cylinder on side of the block it has a plug in that goes to it.

Yes test it at vatozone. 7 years? dang that is awesome for a battery. I doubt that would be causing the idle/running issues. Just the slow cranking (sounds like what you're talking about)

Thanks for the info. You are correct, I just googled it. I was thinking transmission part TPS, but it is Throttle position sensor.

Your symptoms are exactly what a faulty tps sensor will do. Go to autozone and get one. They are not expensive if it fixes it you won't be out a lot of money for the part. Should be a plug in connector, a couple mounting bolts and a gasket behind the sensor
