Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 16, 2008 What do you think about the November archery elk hunts? Are you interested in putting in for them? My friend thought they could be good since that time may be before any major weather and one could sit water, and only have 25 hunters in the field. I feel if weather does come in, it would be a cold camping trip. Try sneaking to 20 yards on a group of reclusive, pressured bulls on crunchy snow. They have been harassed by archery deer and elk hunters, muzzy hunters, early rifle hunters, rifle deer hunters and turkey hunters to make em reclusive. Also, if there is a high demand for these hunts, G&F will shift September archery elk tags to November in the name of opportunity. Doug~RR

GRONG Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Seeing that these new Nov hunts are the week or so prior to the rifle hunts I can't imagine there's only gonna be 25 people in the woods. I bet it'd be a madhouse of guys scouting for their hunts. Then those guys with the rifle tags will be hunting elk that have been hunted for a while and will be that much more spooked and harder to find. I guess it's all about the opportunity though right? Not for me though. My two cents.
TwoGuns Report post Posted January 16, 2008 I dont understand why they are putting archery hunts in November. The only reason I can guess is to get more hunters into the woods without killing many more elk. I hope everyone else puts in for november hunts, because I will be putting in for september. Seems like the same motive as moving most of the WT tags to October/November, there will be more hunters/tags but low success rates. I hate the cold, short days. I'll take long, warm September days anytime, and I prefer my elk rutting and not running scared from gun shots. twoguns
Red Rabbit Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Two Guns, Correct you are about the reason for the November hunts; opportunity with less harvest. Actually, I hope few apply. If demand is high, there will be a shift from Sept to November tag alotments. You and I both would hate to lose that opportunity of a Sept archery elk hunt. wklman Report post Posted January 17, 2008 it sucks, since they moved the rifle hunt back to the next week i won't be able to put in for the late hunt because of my job's(UPS driver) busiest time is in Dec.i think the game and fish is screwing the rifle hunters as well because those elk are gonna be so buggered from the bow hunt that you'll never have a chance to find 'em. plus the weather will be unpredictable in december.
