Fluid intake?

Recommended Posts

How much fluid do you drink on a regular day? On a hunt? While doing a wilderness backpack hunt? Do you drink mostly water, sports drinks, etc? Just kinda curious what and how much keeps a person hydrated. I know weight and activity level makes a difference.

When I'm on a backpack type hunt (above 11,500') I have to force myself to drink at least 65 ounces of water a day.....a lot harder than one may think. I will usually mix in 16 ounces of Wilderness Athlete Altitude mix as well to mix it up.

depends on conditions and exertion, 3 to 5 liters in the heat, 2 to 3 liters in cool weather.

Nuun electrolyte tabs added to water plus Gatorade gel tabs every hour or so.

Had kidney stones so a gallon of water a day. I get these energy drink mix packets from Wal-Mart to mix into a bottle or two of water. I now only have 2-3 Dr. Peppers instead of a 12 pack per day. At least 2 cups of coffee, juice or a smoothie. My pee looks like tap water as I never want to have another kidney stone for the rest of my life.

All I know is I dont nearly drink enough water unless I'm really hitting it hard. If I'm hiking hard and sweating then I drink a lot of water.

Most of my spots are only 1-1.5 miles so nothing major, which leads to me not drinking enough.

If I don't have to take a leak every 2-3 hours I know I am not drinking enough.

Never tracked it in detail but my guess is around 3 liters, 5-6 water bottles. A little more if I have a cup of coffee and a beer or two.

Ya that's the trick I use especially in high country. I usually pee about every 3 hours roughly during normal week days so I keep track of that when I'm off grid. I know it takes a lot more water in the high country than normal day to day at home.

I use high end electrolytes in powder form almost daily during workouts and always use them in the high country.

Another thing I learned is to bring recovery milkshakes when I'm bivvy hunting or even with the mules. It's a lot of work and I feel stronger when I stick to a workout routine as I would at home.

4-5 liters a day if medium to high activity. 2-3 if low.

I half died from dehydration twice this past year and it forced me to change.

BP off 75/50 and talking stupid. Not fun.

Here's a stat for ya, we hiked rim to rim last month and I hit 12 liters of water on the way across over ten hours then downed about 6 more liters on the drive home.

So Im drinking 3 liters when I wake up at 4:30 am. Drink another 5 liters thruout the day and still feel dehydrated. I do one 32oz Gatorade in that 8 liters and maybe an electrolyte tab or two in my water. Stopped drinking booze a month ago. Havent had a soda in over two years. Im thinking my salt intake from food is too high.
