late Kaibab youth hunt

Recommended Posts

Now that I know I'll be taking my grandson to Kaibab Nov 9-12, wondering if anybody who has done that hunt can give me some pointers. Will the deer have moved out to the lower country, or does that happen only when the snow starts. No predictable pattern? Due to a tight schedule , I plan on going up a day or two early, but that's it. I'd like to at least have a general idea of where to start. Did the mid October hunt 2 years ago and there were deer all over the place, but up on top. Thanks in advance for any help.

Unlikely that the deer will have moved much, IMO. I would focus on the mid-zone (like 1/2 way between the very top and the bottom). Ponderosa, oak, etc...

LOVE those Jr. hunts!!!!!!

Good luck!

Like you said does everywhere you'll find them easy.....

Was going to do that exact hunt for my boys because of all the deer I seen on my brother in laws Nov. tag. The kids will have fun for sure; go to the exact areas you seen them in the Oct. hunt.

What he said. Keep in touch, Tom and I'll help you if its the early youth hunt up there that my son has. Last year (or the year before?) a friend's son had the late hunt and I sent him to the spots where my daughter shot both of her deer. He was done opening day.

Deer will be high, low, and everywhere in between unless we get a freak super heavy snow prior.

Weather could be sunny and warm, cold & windy, rainy, or snow. Be prepared for everything. If the kid can shoot between 50-200 yards, you should put a deer in the freezer. Does are plentiful up there, but they can be very skittish. Try to pick one with no fawns with them.

Head to the transition zone, little mt area. You will see deer even with your eyes closed.
