452b264 Report post Posted May 20, 2018 How much weight does the flute save? About 4 to 8 oz. a little more if they are spiral flutes. A bolt fluting job only removes about 1 to 2 oz. Ounces cost $100 s

mattys281 Report post Posted May 20, 2018 How much weight does the flute save? Fluting is supposed to net two benefits, the obvious weight savings and also faster heat dissipation as you have increased the surface area that conatacts the air and also reduced the cross section thickness of the barrel.... in theory. Never tested it myself and I don’t know anyone that has, but the math is right
Hoss50 Report post Posted May 20, 2018 I have continually thought about fluting the barrel on my savage because it is a heavy pig. Even 6oz would be a little relief of weight. I have other projects that need the money first though I think.
300RUM Report post Posted May 20, 2018 4 or 5 ounces here, another 1 or 2 there. If you keep going it doesn't take long to reach 16 ounces AKA 1 pound.
CatfishKev Report post Posted May 21, 2018 How much does fluting affect accuracy. Doesn't fluting make rifles slightly less rigid therefore slightly less accurate? Recently bought a Remington LRH in 7 mag and would love to have it done but dont want to sacrifice any accuracy.
