back from the san carlos

Recommended Posts

We made it back from our San Carlos hunt, and it was outstanding. We hunted 7 days and saw over 45 different bucks. We got one opening morning two the 4th day and one the 7th day. No complaints the entire hunt was a success, can't wait to go back.

440 yards opening morning 257 mag.

4th day, mine is a clean 4x4 found him 2 days before and finally found him again about a mile away 380 yards 257 mag. The other one walked out about 50 yards from were mine dropped 15 minutes later while we were still glassing and was shot at 430 yards with a 300 short mag.

7th day buck, we had a 100 " buck bedded and we were waiting for him to stand when this on walked out at 430 yards, warbird laz. I was ranging some distances in case the shot didn't connect with the bedded buck when I saw this buck in the range finder ripping up a tree, what luck, the bedded buck was pretty fortunate that day.

Wow those are some beautiful bucks. Congrats to all the hunters! Do you happen to have any scores on any of them?

The bucks range from 93" to 104", we were hunting unit A were we heard the all the good bucks were gone when we bought the tags, not the case. Good friends good times and an outstanding time. We could'nt have been so successful without each others help that's for sure.

Great bucks for sure. It sure looks like the lower part of unit C to me. Did you guys see any lions on your hunt? David

We saw plenty of lion sign, but no lions. Last time we saw 3, 2 big Toms and a female. We had to go to the office and pick our lion tags up, they never did send them in the mail but no big deal. The tag was $1500 and this year they lowered D east and west to $1500. Well worth it with the little amount of hunting pressure you see which was none. The way the tags are given out is the only issue I see.

Yes, the way the tags are given out is pretty much a mess. You might want to look into paying a guide to get your tag for you. That way you don't have to stand in line for a day.

Now this is what i like to see, Primetime couldn't have said it better, "Good friends, Good times", i mean of course thats what we all enjoy about hunting, also a good example that, in my opinion, no one unit is better than the next out here on the rez, we all have our good hunts and our bad hunts too but thats all just part of hunting, enjoy the outdoors with your family and friends while its still all around us!

Well stated Dan,

Its been my experience that all units have unique qualities about'em.

We hunted unit C'08 with excellent results. We spotted pretty good buXs every day on our outings. The rut in C unit was full-on. BuXs scurring over the mtns. sides criss-crossing trails in the fresh snow. It was great until the sun popped out and melted the roads away. From then on it was a battle to keep vehicles from getting mired up in the mud and snow. It was all good. We managed to take a 100+" w/ 18.25" spread (handle bars) and a general issue 90+'' SC coues deer. We had hunted a valley for a previously spotted 110" class that snuck away from us and saved himself later on by breaking off one whole side. Its OK, save'em for next year....throw'em back and let it grow somemore ;) Enjoy.
