Trail Camera Use Decision

Recommended Posts

Don Martin wrote up a summary article in our paper about the Commission Meeting in Kingman last week. I was planning to attend and speak but couldn't get away from work that afternoon. 101 emails sent to Cook about the proposal. 46 for, 55 against. Mine was one of them.

I like using cameras to scout because its really fun, kids love doing it with me, and it helps me be a more effective and selective hunter. I was thinking a middle ground might be to allow them only for pre-season scouting, disallow during times when that unit has active deer or elk hunts, but some units have those hunts from Aug until Jan so only the Aug guys would benefit... Maybe we could just put restrictions on the strip deer hunts and the most premium elk hunts, no during-season use on those since those seem to be the biggest problem?

"Jay Cook, who is heading the department’s effort to address the Article 3 items, noted that the trail camera issue had generated more written comments than any of the other proposed recommendations.

Cook said the department had received 46 emails in support of the one-quarter mile restriction on the use of passive trail cameras, while 55 comments had been received that did not support the recommendation."
