Urban Fishing @ Rio Vista

Recommended Posts

Took my daughter there last week. She had a ball catching bluegill on a 4wt fly rod. Was catching them on an elk hair caddis fly. She loved watching them come up and swallow the Fly off the top of the water. I tried for the big bass in there. A lot were on beds and not interested in anyth8ng I threw in their faces.

You guys are silly these urban lakes are stocked with fish every other week. Then they are caught then they are stocked again.

Check out the ponds over by Marguerite Lake. They usually hold decent bass.

Is it legal to fish in the canals?

It is my understanding that you also don't need a fishing license to fish them since SRP owns them. On another note Kiwanis in Tempe used to be pretty good.

doesnt srp own saguaro lake, canyon, apache, roosevelt?

They own the dams, not the land or the lakes.

OP - In addition to the recommendations above, see if you can talk to any golf course managers about fishing in the ponds after hours with your kid, it may be a long shot but many GC ponds have starving bass that eat anything thrown at them.

if they own the water and the dam, they own the lake.

You have had it explained to you in the Alamo is Dropping thread before but let's clarify again -

SRP doesn't own the water, they manage and deliver it to internal and external shareholders based on a variety of factors that go far beyond explanation in this thread.

SRP doesn't own the dams, the USBR does.

Most if not all golf courses have GREAT Bass, Catfish & Carp fishing. Almost all courses will ask/kick you off the course during operating hours. I used to fish a lot of golf courses in the Scottsdale area at night when I was a kid. Awesome fishing!

Is it legal to fish in the canals?

Several years back I had a couple buddies who were checked by g&f while fishing the canal. They didn't have licenses and he made them buy one. Don't know if that's standard procedure but I can't imagine the odds of seeing g&f are very high... I think they weren't far from a major road.
