FINALLY a javelina

Recommended Posts

I don't know how many of these tags my brother and I have eaten, but I think it is about 5 or 6. I cannot find these things. This year I had help. THANK YOU, CLAY PRICE. I met him here and told him of my frustrations and he offered to help me out. We were out in 24A on Friday with no luck. Saturday morning we got started again. We found one lone pig that crossed the colvert (sp) and went on the other side of the highway. We went after him and then decided to let him go. Later on we decided to do some hiking and after we walked this spot for an hour or so, Clay exclaimed, "PIGS". They were across the highway! We made our way over to find one pig feeding. Then we saw 2 more with them. My brother shot and connected. His pig dropped. I shot a bit low. I nocked another arrow and the pig took off slowly. Without getting graphic, I could see it was badly wounded. We followed it into a colvert where it was "woofing" at us. Clay assured me when you have a wounded javelina that is when all the fun starts. I did not believe him and really just wanted to put my hands on my pig. It turned out Clay was right. After a while of running from on side of the highway to the next checking the colvert, the pig ran out. At this point my heart sank because he was running FAST. He made his way into another colvert while we followed his blood train. 3 more shots finally did the job! I must say it was fun.

Again, that you Clay for taking out a couple strangers for one of the funnest hunts we have ever been on! L to R Andrew (me), Clay and Matt

Congratulations on your pigs. It is good to have someone to offer a helping hand. I bet Clay felt just as excited as you two were to have had success. Good job Clay.

Hey those are some pretty cool pigs you guys got there ;) . Whats up with Matts  . I'm glad you both enjoyed yourselves. I had one heck of a good time and made some very good friends. Andrew you forgot to tell them I had to do all the work  Gutting, Draging and you also forgot how many times you got scared. (me too) we were running all over and away from that big one  .

good luck to everyone that got drawn. RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME.

I know what you mean about scared. My friend hunted archery for the first time and we got one in a cave that would charge out at us every time we approached for a shot. He missed his first two shots at 6ft but was finally successful in harvesting his first bow kill. We were both running from that pig more than once. I finally had to climb into the cave since I was the smallest of us two and for those who know me know I'm not little. It doesn't get any better than helping someone being successful.

For the record, I CAN gut my own game. But when you took it upon yourself to dig in, why would I stop you!

I can't wait to do it again bud. Thank you!

NO HE WASN'T. HE HAD TO BIG OF TEETH TO BE FEEDING FROM MOM. MATTS WAS ROOTING AROUND WHEN WE FIRST SEEN THEM. THE MAMA TOOK OFF OVER THE HILL. SHE WASN'T TOO PROTECTIVE WHICH I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND  . AT LEAST THE LITTLE GUY ISN'T OUT BY HIMSELF :( .

THE TAG ALSO SAYS "ANY PIG". MATT DID SAY IF HE WOULD HAVE SEEN THE BIGEN THEN HE WOULD HAVE TAKEN HIM. :D
