11hunter11 Report post Posted January 5, 2008 My buddy got this nice coues today in 23. Get this, the taxidermist noticed that there was a hole that went thru the navel cavity and went thru to somewhere in the neck. If you look at the pics you will notice a hole with broadhead scares. This is one tough critter to servive that. How lucky is that to shoot a coues thats been shot before....IN THE HEAD.

couestaxi Report post Posted January 5, 2008 While caping this buck out I pulled a 3" section of carbon shaft out of the head. At the back of the throat where the nasal cavity enters the mouth was a three blade NAP Shockwave broadhead. This deer had no fat on him. The broad head tip actually obstructed the throat. It has been that way for some time. The bone had completely healed around the shaft.
mattobertin Report post Posted January 5, 2008 Holy crap that is a trip how tough those little guys are! I shot a muley with my bow at 12 yards that had already been shot recently through the stomache and it ran so far I had to come back in the morning to recover him about an 1/8 mile from where I had shot him at! But that is nothing compared to being shot in the dome!!!!!

Thanks for the details, that is just amazing. It sounds as if it hurt him to eat being there was not any fat on him and the broadhead obstructing his throat. WOW Let us know what that thing scores when you have time, it looked like you were very busy. Oh, by the way that blacktail buck is the one in my aviator. Someday i would like to get him scored just for my own personal knowledge. Heres a pic as well.
couestaxi Report post Posted January 5, 2008 He ended up at 87 0/8"! Really surprised me for basically being a 2 point. The G-3 was non-scorable. Really lots of character to the rack. 16" mains with a 13 1/2" inside spread. I'm guessing that arrow had been in there at least a year judging from the calcium build up around the arrow. Congrat's again you guys! Hope your eye's cleared up.

Coues Sniper Report post Posted January 6, 2008 That's freaking crazy! Did you take any pictures of the skull? I'd like to see those if so. A buddy of mine killed a Coues in 8 a lot of years ago that had about an 8" section of arrow stuck in his ham that was embedded in his hip bone. You'd never know it except he had about 2" sticking out. But to have a arrow in his head, that's nuts.
