AZ8 Report post Posted April 12, 2018 Let me get this straight: So the AZGFD can't get involved in any political activities, for or against. No opinions or any financial allocations. A former "tag grab" group forms another committee that will collect funds to fight the political fights. AZGFD is on board and endorses. In effect, approving what tantamounts to a PAC using big game tags as a fund raiser. I'm confused. Thought they can't get involved with anything, even in appearance as being political. Can you say lawsuit?

bonecollector777 Report post Posted April 12, 2018 How is this "education" going to help anything? This stinks to high heaven. claim is money will be used to inform non hunters of what game and fishes purpose is and why they need to be the ones to manage wildlife and eventually push for another ballot initiative like a few years ago to give game and fish sole power over management and hsus cant bring a ballot initiative to stop hunting like they tried. Seems like tbey should have been doing that atleast a little bit with past money but guess they didnt. Then of course the money will be used to fight hsus and other animal rights groups when they try things like this year. That's what's being said by them but time will tell. If that is truly the purpose and they can fulfill that purpose without giving rich people any more opportunity than they currently have for our tags I'd be ok with it. They can fulfill their goals of money strictly through raffle tags and not doing any auction tags. Charge an extra dollar per ticket or give a few more chances per raffle and you'll have the money an auction tag would generate.
yotebuster Report post Posted April 12, 2018 I guess I like the sound of it. Rich guys with governor tags eat a heck of a lot fewer bucks and bulls then lions do, and theres gonna be a lot more of them if HSUS keeps pushing and wins. Its all about money and they have never ending coffers and we need to be smart about making sure we stay a step ahead.
40-year-AZ-hunter Report post Posted April 12, 2018 So some here such as trophyseeker argue that G&F can not engage in political activities. I believe that is true. On the other hand in Jay Scott's interview with Cimilaro, Cimilaro states emphatically that this is a new source of revenue that will be completely under the control of G&F. If that is so, how will it help fight political fights? Education maybe (which they can do now), political advocacy no. So why the need for more auction tags?
WhtMtnHunter Report post Posted April 12, 2018 It's a pretty simple concept...Our wildlife is not for sale! So when they get 200 tags and 5 million, then lose to HSUS in 2 years are they going to suspend the program? Or are they gonna suddenly need more tags and more money? I'll let you figure it out. It's a terrible idea 6 years ago, and a terrible idea now.

The email posted by Jay Scott in the other thread seems to contradict the political nuances.
Snapshot Report post Posted April 12, 2018 The first time around they wanted tags to raise money for conservation. This time they are using the guise for educational awareness. Putting lipstick on a pig, comes to mind.

runningbird Report post Posted April 12, 2018 I'd like to know why I get an email every week from azsfw telling me what's going on with the lion, big cat deal. But I received nothing from them on this tag deal????? It would be different if they were transparent about the whole thing, But they are off to a terrible start. Last time around they claimed it was purely a mistake that the legislation was started without sportsman knowing about it? Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me. In general Sportsmen and women are so apathetic that it's embarrassing, I can't wait to see if people actually stand up and be heard. Understand this! If they truly cared about what we think or wanted our support an email would have been sent out, times would not have been changed. This is all short notice and they will have some kind of excuse. What will we do?

What will we do? Everyone has certain things that they care about immensely and are willing to sacrifice time, money, and more in order to be heard. This is a matter that hits home to many native Arizonans that have hunted here for many generations and is why they spoke up last time and will again this time. Roosevelt Mark Report post Posted April 12, 2018 So the tag grabbers are back? Swell. If money is involved for G$F, I'm sure they will be slobbering all over that deal. Bingo

I want to believe these guys are trying to help wildlife but with the two first meetings being so secretive I've got a bad feeling. Even members of this so called board that was formed weren't invited. He seems to be more on the conservative side of it as well. Suspicious. Until they set up actual meetings where people can plan to get there and ask questions and they seem to actually listen to the publics ideas, I'm not for any of this.
