I have found in the past that all I have to do in southern az is just put the head in the middle of the wood pile where the dogs can not get to it and the bugs will find it. If you need some starter bugs, just go find a will dried road kill bunny and put him in with the skull. Of course the bugs will be more active in the summer months, and might be scarce in the winter.
