BowNut Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Ok Help me with a discussion we had today.Lets say a creek is the boundary of a hunt unit. The creek bed is 300 yards (Just throwing out a number) from one side to the other. The animal you are hunting is in the creek bed what unit is he in??For example 22 and 23 at Tonto Creek. Is the creek bed edges the line and the creek bed it's self not in a particular unit? Or is the water it self the line? And if it's the water what if it is dry? coues7 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Not to be dishonest or misleading but if the game is in the bottom of the creek it's fair game in either unit. If it's on one side or the other it's in the unit that's it's on.
IHunt2live Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I think the major issue is if the deer runs into the unit that you are unable to hunt after the shot. Can you retrieve it? I guess just make the shot count and try to put him down right there.

I guess just make the shot count and try to put him down right there. I would say if you had a blood trail coming out of your unit it would not be an issue. .270 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 game and fish laws state that you shall make every attempt to retrieve wounded game. if you hit an animal in one unit and it runs into another you not only should, but are required to, track it down and get it. this happened to me while cow hunting with my bro' inlaw once. he hit a cow that wandered across the road into a closed unit. we went over there and he finished it. a game warden came by, looked at the situation, helped us load it in his truck and he took us to our truck, which was a long ways away. no citation or even a stern talkin' to. curmudgen Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I agree with what's been said. But make sure you preserve any evidence you need to prove your case. Photos, other witnesses' names and addresses, etc. Some G @ F officers and courts tend to be skeptical. Jack (Former prosecutor)
Non-Typical Solutions Report post Posted January 7, 2008 What about the Rez line.....I was hunting archery bull a few years back, hunting right on the fence line....had a bull come across the fence about 30 yards, I was scared to death of putting an arrow in him and then having to go retrieve him on the reservation.....I guess if I was so worried about it I should have gotten further away from the d@mn fence line...
