DesertBull Report post Posted January 2, 2008 Saw something on New Years day that I have never seen before. While pig hunting near Winkleman, I saw a hawk pick up a baby javelina, carry it up about 30-40 feet in the air and drop it. Cool and sad at the same time. GameHauler Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Cool, I would like to have seen that. Let me guess though. The hawk dropped it right in front of you so you could put your tag on it since it knew you did not have a snowballs chance of getting one yourself. bmf1321 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Thats interesting. During the early archery season I saw a hawk swoop down and try and pick up a Whitetail doe that was running across a meadow less than 60 yards in front of me.
CouesWhitetail Report post Posted January 3, 2008 Neat sighting. I once saw a couple eagles harassing a herd of javelina trying to get one. They never did, but it was amazing to watch. The javelina all gathered up the young ones and kind of huddled together to avoid any of them getting picked off. The eagles would take turns swooping in on them looking for an opening or weakness. .270 Report post Posted January 3, 2008 i can't believe it took the hawk that long to realize it had picked up a javelina. did he head to the nearest pond and wash off his talons? 2 years ago me and my ol' man watched 2 golden eagles get after some deer. they were trying to single out a fawn when they almost flew into my pickup. i think they would have at least hit it if we weren't parked where we were. he watched 2 eagles (probably the same 2) kill a fawn several years ago in the same area. kept hitting it in the back until he got a kidney or artery or something. it's interesting to watch. Browning'sCustomMeat Report post Posted January 3, 2008 I once watched a coyote take down a baby javy, the coyote jumped up turned and licked it rear end just to get the taste out of its mouth!!!
