IMHO--- A start would be to ban all camp fires -- open flames . Been done before .

If an individual is up to making the trek out into the public lands it should be no problem to use propane to cook with.....

I agree with Chico. No need to close the forests just ban all open flames until we get the moisture.

And no fines for having an open flame. Jail time instead, and seize all their crap in the process. Dumb people learn the hard way.

They should have banned campfires already. As for completely closing...that would be a bummer since I have a turkey tag :) They just need more teeth to the no campfires rules.

nice idea to ban campfires, won't stop the idiots, if you remember a few years back a guy was cited for a fire and he was using the No Campfires sign as tinder

Why not ban idiots. Once again officials avoid the actual problem. It is not fire or guns that cause problems it is the idiots. And when officials point a finger at a problem three fingers are pointing back at them. <_<

The Forest Service has a prescribed fire going right now north of Apache Maid

They actually have three more scheduled for tomorrow. I sent them a message asking them if they've lost their mind! NWS has issued fire weather warnings for the next few days. 30-60 mph winds, with single digit humidity levels.

Not sure what the FS is thinking with this strategy?
