How steep is to steep?

Recommended Posts

I went on a hike today and was in coues country. But I was around some big canyons. Was just wondering how steep of canyons you have seen coues deer in before? Like everything but straight up and down?

Everything...even in sheep country.

Yup.. Went on a sheep hunt last year in a unit I never would have expected to see a coues in and found them. They were definitely harder to find as well.

I don't think steep applies to deer. If they want to go there, they go there. I've seen a coues doe go up a cliff that her fawn had to attempt 3 times before she made it.

I've seen them on stuff in Sycamore canyon that you wouldn't think they could have gotten to.

I've come across elk in areas I could barely traverse on foot myself. Coues are like sheep and goats. My buddy that got me hunting always said lets go poor man sheep hunting.

I don't look where I don't want to go get them.

Too far from the roads?

Old and fat. :)

There is a reason a coues hunt is sometimes jokingly called a poor mans bighorn sheep hunt.

I'm with you on this 1! If I can't go there I try not to look. :)
