Buying a used suburban or yukon, what to look for?

Recommended Posts

Stay away from small dealerships (corner car lots) unless you know the guys. Theyll take a dealer maintained vehicle and replace all the factory parts with autozone crap. Also stay away from big well known dealerships. They hire the corner lot guys to work in their used car departments. You get the same crap, gallons of armor all on every surface and cheap aftermarket parts! Buy from an individual or buy a certified pre owned. Pm me if you need one looked at for pre purchase inspection. Or pm texashunter. hes honest.

Lmao
true or not? Lol

Depends on the place. I'm still trying to get over that time

You said the guy asking 3k over retail for that Tacoma was a good deal.

The list is long! Haha just kidding. They are pretty good. Some common things are motor mounts, cam bearings (ticking noise), fuel pumps and connector, rear fuel tank over filling the main tank, evap problems/leaks, and occasionally a tranny will fail. The trucks I have seen are abused and beat on so a daily driver/family ride would only have to worry about the fuel pump IMO. They are pretty good vehicles.

So would you guys steer clear of it if it has the ticking? Is this the same ticking I mentioned to look out for on the top end?

Watch for the 5.3l motors with oIL consumption issues.

How would you look for it? Smoke when you dump on it?

Look for one that looks well taken care of, it probably was. And yes right now is the worst time. But you're never really gonna find a smoking deal on a 4x4 suburban since they're always desirable

Figured now was not ideal but it is what it is. Make me feel better they are sought after I guess.

yes, because i would be annoyed and wouldnt want to fix it haha. but i am talking about cam bearing noise, not valve train noise. i can deal with noisy valve trains.

Any used vehicle is a risk , cause you just don’t know how it was taken care of, but sometimes I guess you gotta just roll the dice. Good luck hope it works out and you score a solid piece. Always risky when it comes to vehicles even off the showroom floor ones.

Active lifter is like the displacement on demand thru did it for fuel economy it shuts off lifters so it runs on only 4 cylinders at cruise. And I believe most of the gm v8s after 07 have it.

check the auction places if you see Yukon or Burban or vehicle that came from utility company look at it--taken care of in all aspects .

PM schedule and repairs are not what you see in the public spectrum---

Ahh ok, thats what dude in the video was talking about as the tick on the top end to look out for. This was the only video I could find on what to look out for.

So since they all have it can you do something to avoid them failing like turn it off or is it automatic?
