cmc Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Hi my name is Jeff and i have a problem, i cant seem to get a coues deer with a bow. I have lived in AZ for 2 years now and have been hunting in unit 23 south. First welcome to AZ and CWT. Second... you're not allowed to complain till after your 5th year. I've been bow hunting coues for 15+ years and have yet to tag one so I can't take pitty on you. And I'm not holding out for any 3x3. I won't shoot a nubby but a decent spike better watch out. Just stick at it and never give up. cmc
Browning'sCustomMeat Report post Posted January 3, 2008 This is my first coues with a bow. Taken from the pines in 22 close to 23. Never pass a coues with an opportunity to shoot it with a bow, especially your first. Many people go years before they even get the chance. After you get one under the belt, you could be a little more choosey, but I wouldn't. Good Luck in January!
gorczyca Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Stalker- SHOOT! SHOOT! SHOOT! Any coues with a bow is a good one. I just took my first coues this past Nov (rifle) but I'll be back with a bow one day. I did want to ask you about the Columbian black tails your shot in Cali. I currently live in Fresno and need a Columbian to complete my deer slam. Any advise or suggestions you can offer to help me accomplish this feat? I know B-zones are were the true Colombians live...I have a couple areas in mind. I'm thinking of going during the general season....I can archery hunt though. Any help would be welcomed and appreciated. Best of luck in your pursuit of the elusive coues. Scott G. mattys281 Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Stalker: Most of these guys on here are coues killing machines, so I'd listen to any advice they have. As far as holding out for a bigger one, I'm a believer that a trophy is measured in effort, not inches, so if it seems to easy for you than do what you have to to make it more challenging. Be it waiting for a bigger deer or getting down out of your treestand & stalking, I believe that at the end of the day you'll have to sweat a little before you'll be satisfied with your trophy. That having been said, getting within bow range of any coues deer is an accomplishment. I've only had three shot opportunities at coues deer & managed to miss all of them, so I'd be happy to trade for one of your little guys. Matt S.

A22 & D16 tag is what i always got. I used the D16 so i could get a few weeks with my bow just before the rut, A22 tag is for bow only. I hunted in Laguna Mnt area because it is bow only. I dont know much about the B-zones but i can tell you that Laguna Mnt off of sunrise hwy has some really nice deer but you have to put your time in. Look up by the general store where the Pines turn to Sage and then dessert. Every so often you will find a huge Mullie in there as well. Good luck with your slam. Let us know how you do. crazy4COUES Report post Posted January 10, 2008 Man I have seen some killer deer come out of 23. Don't underestimate that unit. I think of the wise ol coues bucks as well seasoned gamblers. If you are willing to put in enough time they will make a mistake and you can take em for all they got. If you just try on occasion they will take you for all YOU got.
