Snapshot Report post Posted February 24, 2018 Hopefully these cops are not being used as scapegoats. With so much fake news lately, it's hard to believe anything.
AZLance Report post Posted February 24, 2018 In this world, you are either a sheep, a wolf, or a sheepdog. Being a sheepdog can't be trained or practiced. You either have it or you don't. I'm not sticking up for the deputies who supposedly didn't rush into the school, but hindsight and Monday morning quarterbacking are easy. Very few people will run towards gunfire no matter how much you are paid to do so. The new training on active shooter situations has drastically changed in the last few years from one of wait for backup then go in, to now, first guy goes in as to confront shooter asap. Many in law enforcement have not gone thru new training yet. Again, running towards gunfire is not natural! It takes a rare breed to do it, and until you are in that situation, don't second guess others.
AZkiller Report post Posted February 24, 2018 4 sheriffs deputies stood there and let kids bleed out. Government can't protect you. Arm up
hoghntr Report post Posted February 24, 2018 The sheriff has assigned 6 deputies to protect this guy at his home because of threats to him. Interesting 1 officer assigned who didn't do his job to protect kids now has 6 officers protecting him.
chico Report post Posted February 24, 2018 IMHO--- Have friends that have been in that situation---not school shootings---combat . Foreign lands doing what they signed up for . Don't talk much about it other than to say they were doing the job they signed up for . As Mr. Lance states----you got it or you don't .

G_E_E Report post Posted February 28, 2018 Like azlance said not all LEOs have gone through the new active shooter training. I'm curious if this deputy Peterson had. The training I went through does a pretty good job at training you too seek out the threat and engage it or distract it from killing more. But there's also a huge difference between the simunition training rounds and real rounds being fired at you. With that said all LEOs take an oath to protect and serve. I just hope that other LEOs in his situation will be able do what it takes to take out the threat asap.
ThomC Report post Posted February 28, 2018 Dont leave out the POS Sheriff in charge of the department. He wouldnt have run in either. He is cowering behind anything to save himself. He is attacking the NRA to keep the spotlight off of his ineptitude. There is as they say a "culture of" police incompetence" in his department that starts at the top. It reminds me of our ex sheriff in Pima County when Congresswoman Giffords had her "meeting on the sidewalk". She did not want police around. But, our sheriff could have had plain clothes deputies there to protect a US Congresswoman and a Judge and other people. It was the other people who rushed in to stop the shooter. And wow did he spout off after it was over about everything but his huge blunder.

jt807 Report post Posted March 1, 2018 Hopefully these cops are not being used as scapegoats. With so much fake news lately, it's hard to believe anything. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. Probably both. Apparently they were given the order to stage-- get ready to go in but don't go in. But all their training was to go in. So I think the person giving those orders needs to be stood up. But they should have made a moral decision to do something; to protect. So I'd say they all have blood on their hands.
hoghntr Report post Posted March 1, 2018 I definitely agree with AZLance although if many of us have or still do it for strangers we don't even particularly like then how could ANYONE stand by while kids are being hurt? Personally I'm that guy that stops to help with every accident and risks his own self for a stranger but my family knows this is who I am. My family knows that a strangers life might be protected any day and mine might be lost and im not on the job it's just built in from God, Life, Military, and my Character. I can't help but figure even facing death or being fired from job my butt would have been in that school with not much hesitation at gate except to yell at those with guns they were hiding. This is a horrible tragedy with no forseen end in sight anytime soon. The more we publicise the more it will happen.
trphyhntr Report post Posted March 1, 2018 What azlance said is true, what is also true is none of us signed up to protect kids at that Florida school like those officers did.
More D Report post Posted March 1, 2018 I have literally ran to the sound gun fire twice in my life and on another occasion purposely stood in front of a drawn pistol to try and keep others around me from getting hurt. Neither of those times did I have so much as a pocket knife with me. Was it the smartest thing to do? No. Some would argue that it was probably the dumbest thing someone could do but at those specific times I could not stand by and do nothing. Thank my Lord nothing happened to me or anyone around during those occasions. I was lucky to say the least. For the record I am not law enforcement. I am just some one who was placed in a crappy, stupid situation and felt like I had to act. Training or not like it has been mentioned before......you have it or you do not. Living with the fact that others, innocent people, DIED WHO I WAS IN CHARGE OF their safety is something that I would be unbearable to me.
