Dilemma, how would you deal with this??

Recommended Posts

No friend is worth the safety of your own kids. Tell him flat out why you wont hunt with him. heck, maybe it will make him think twice and have his kids learn the way of the woods the right way!

I think if you tell him you'll loan him your new optics, if he hunts by hmself, you have solved the problem ;)

Seriously, I think most of us that hunt with another person, find some level of hunting habits in them that we do not agree with. The one line that needs to be drawn, is where safety for yourself or others crosses the comfort level.

If you have some level of concern for safety with him, you need to discuss it with him or find a way to not hunt with him at all.

The thing is, if something happened in the future, where he actually hurt or killed someone, how would you feel? Glad it was not you that was hurt or guilty that you did not warn him about it.

So one of the guys who I hunt with is putting his kids in Hunter safety and wants to put his kids in with mine next year for a deer hunt. The problem is he is not really a serious hunter and is not that skilled(loud, noisy, does not sight his gun in year to year etc) now his oldest boy I would not trust with a pop gun much less a real one, so how in the world do I tell him his baby is ugly and make him like it? Or should I just wrap my kids in orange and hope for the best? I can see this kid looking at things through his scope to identify them  just thought I would add that. What would you guys do in this situation?? ag

Are you talking about who I think you're talking about.......

Your childrens safety comes first! I would just put in on seperate apps with the same hunts, maybe change the order and hope for the best or just tell him straight up. It will cause a lot of termoil but it must be talked about, your true feelings and your concern for your childrens safety must be addressed. my .02

Couesslayer,

Enjoy that hair while you have it, I used to just paint my head in camo paint but it would run into my eyes when I sweat and make me miss everything I shot at!! Now I wear hats with long brims that block my scope just as I shoot. The good thing is that I dont have to keep a signal mirror with me anymore I just take my hat off and point my head to the sun.

oh and who do you think I am referring to?

Seriously , a ton of great ideas, except for az4life, NOWAY am I loaning him my Glasses??!! I think I may just take them out in the woods and have his boy carry a bb gun and see how he does and gently point things out, if he gets belligerent I will just tell them they are on their own. AG

I guess I'm pretty harsh but if he's that bad I wouldn't hunt with him in the first place. You can't replace your kids. Protect them at any cost.

It just so happens I have a few friends just like your buddy and I have always found that honesty is the best policy. This may be hard for some people but I just tell them like it is. PERIOD! If they don't like it well then the truth hurts sometimes does'nt it.

Hey AG,

Glad to hear you did not hit the eggnog too heavy to keep priorities straight. BBgun is a good idea too.

(I'd leave your new glass at home on that one though!.)

Merry Christmas

Ha, Ha ,Ha, I am laughing my butt off right now!!! It sounds like a 3 ring circus. Big hunting camps are fun, but you are into a stage where your kids getting a deer is ALOT more important that your buddy getting one. You need to put in for a different hunt than your kids, then focus on them. Jacey is going to be in hunter saftey, and I am going to put her in. I dang sure wouldn't have a crowd around. Talk to me dude, maybe we can do something. Oh, by the way, I have a Zeiss scope!. ;) >>Jason

Have a talk with your friend, go through the hunters safety course and see how serious he and the boy take it. If they dont take the critisism or the class seriously, ditch him!
