singleshot Report post Posted February 18, 2018 New to the AR platform. Hoping to get some opinions on an optic for it. My max range would probably be 100 yards. I like the idea of a red dot, not looking for absolute accuracy but would like to be able to dump a 100 yard coyote. Is a red dot type sight feasible at 100 yards? Or would you lean towards a low power scope?

firstcoueswas80 Report post Posted February 19, 2018 I have the primary arms micro dot on mine. I'd feel confident on a coyote to 100, and it (was) only about $110 when I bought. My duty rifle has a EOtech.

GreyGhost85 Report post Posted February 19, 2018 Not a vortex fan, but i have a strike eagle 1-8 on one of mine. Really like it. Seems to bridge the gap from SHTF to practical use.

AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted February 19, 2018 What are you guys zoroing these sights at ? 100yrds Zero at 50 yards. That puts you dead on at 200 and one inch high at 100.
singleshot Report post Posted February 19, 2018 Any body have any experience with the Vortex Sparc or Strikefire? Aim point Pro looks great but pretty pricey. I was hoping to spend about $250. Thanks for your feedback.
AZbowhntr Report post Posted February 19, 2018 My AR is a varmint setup with a 20" barrel but I put my old Zeiss Conquest 3X9 scope on it. And I zeroed it at 50 yards. Most of my shots on coyotes are within that range. Plus as stated above it is on at 200 yards also.
More D Report post Posted February 19, 2018 I have the Vortex Sparc AR. It is a nice little red dot. It comes with absolute and 1/3 co-witness bases. Rubber armored included as well. I like the compactness of it. Some feel it is too small but both eyes open shooting it is awesome. PSA often has it AND ten M2 PMAGs for $199+shipping. I think I paid $209 shipped. If you are getting into the platform you are going to need mags anyways.
oz31p Report post Posted February 19, 2018 Zeroed at 100. Keeps you in a coyotes kill zone from 0-250. A coyote is 20-40lbs animal you hit one in the chest they drop.
metau Report post Posted February 22, 2018 I too ran an EOTech 512 for several years. 50yd zero, good to 250 if I did my part. Ended up going with a 1-8x scope, but that model is way past your price point. Find a decent holographic sight and run it.
