bcoover Report post Posted October 18, 2004 We all have are own hunting spots. We all like the units we hunt. My question is What is the best unit in Arizona for coues. If anyone replies to this post please give facts not just what you saw over the weekend.

WHT_MTNMAN Report post Posted October 18, 2004 Just facts huh? What does best unit mean? Most deer, most bucks, the most big bucks, lots of road access, no road access, least amount of hunters, (to me very important) to each hunter "the best unit" means different. As a whole alot of people like 36B. just my .02 cents worth.
azcouesandelk Report post Posted October 18, 2004 This is my first year going after coues, but I have spent enough time in some great coues units and seen enough coues to understand where it is good and where it isn't. Anyway I would have to say either 35a or 36c would have to be the best ones in the state.
Guest Ernesto C Report post Posted October 19, 2004 That's a good one azpackhorse. I think the best unit is........................ the one you get a tag for. My two cents. Ernesto C.
m1280 Report post Posted October 19, 2004 i ,as well as packhorse, and from dwaynes book would agree that 36b is the best bet on public land!
COUESAZ Report post Posted October 19, 2004 (edited) The best unit is the unit with all the coues deer in it. I guess you should just ask for our favorite spot if your going to ask that. Another good spot is the spot my glasses will be glassing on opening morning Some people BLA BLA BLA. Other people for me to know and you to find out. bullwidgeon Report post Posted October 19, 2004 Any of the 34/36 units are great if you can draw a late tag. Sometimes a hunter will sacrifice and go with better draw odds in a place they know because they have been drug around the hills since before they could walk by family members or friends. There are a bunch of other units that are good on a late tag and alot easier to draw. I have one of those tags this year and we will see what I can accomplish if the conditions are not that bad. For early and middle hunts I like 33, but I spend alot of time there, dont mind scaling giant crappy boulder piles and know where I can go to have a reasonable chance to kill an OK deer. This is really a personal preference question, I assume guys that live up North would swear units 6 through 23 are the best depending on what they know, and I know several good coues hunters that think those units are ULTRA WEAK. It is all about knowing your own capabilities and knowledge of the country. There is a whopper coues deer in every unit open to coues hunting in AZ. Good luck... Bret M. bcoover Report post Posted October 19, 2004 Ok everyone has put in their two cents. I didn't see very many facts but lets not worry about that. It seems 36b,32,35a, and 36c are the top four. I personally like unit 23, but I didn't have any facts to back it up. I was surpised no one thought about unit 27. I don't like 27 but you could of backed it up with some facts. Let's forget about the facts and take a vote on 36b,32,35a,36c,23, and 27. Now support you vote with your knowlege of that unit.
treestandman1 Report post Posted October 19, 2004 27 archery. Huge bucks in the thick pines. Good for treestands. 32 rifle. Lots of bucks in many types of terrain.
Arizonabowhunter Report post Posted October 19, 2004 I like 36b 34a and 33, 34a If my memory serves me correct has the world record coues Pope and Young (Sergio Orozco 2001). I have chased some toads in 34a but yet too harvest anything, have harvested some nice bucks out of 36b and unit 33. Particularly 33,just my 2 cents worth. Manamal Report post Posted October 19, 2004 I have seen more big coues bucks in unit 22 than any other.I spend alot of time there hunting them with my bow, it has been my first choice for the rifle hunt for years, no tag. 36b has some really solid bucks as does 34a and 32, but I do agree that there are monster bucks in every coues unit in the state. My "vote" is for any of the above mentioned units, i gave some specifics on unit 22 on another thread. I had a few beers that evening and gave in my opinion too much good info. Dan H Report post Posted October 19, 2004 With the crap we all face on draw percentages/odds these days I think we will all hunt every unit mentioned above atleast once over the next decade. I say we are still extremely fortunate to all be out in the field. Enjoy it while you can! Dan
