lancetkenyon Report post Posted February 16, 2018 I like the case design, short case, long neck, 30 degree shoulder, fits in a short action. Time will tell, I will wait and see if it gets any support from the manufactures, unlike 6.5 saum.Very well said! It will do everything the bigger cases will do with less powder, longer barrel life, less recoil, and better brass life. The short action thing is in your head if that what you like. Difference between a short action and long action is one inch! If that's too heavy or you can't manage the longer bolt throw than it's a plus. It's shiny new nickle! I would not say "it will do everything the bigger cases will do". Several will outrun this by 100-200+fps.
AZAV8ER Report post Posted March 25, 2018 I don't get it. 270 WIN shoots right with the non magnum 6.5's. Why complicate it? Built a "Sendero" style rifle and decided was easier to get it in 270 VS 6.5/284. Presto a little H4831, Berger 140 VLD's and 1/3 MOA rifle thats has less drop than 6.5 Creedmoor and equal to 6.5 PRC.

The drop chart works out when iI put in a MV of 2950fps. Thats out of a 24 inch tube and a couple grains shy of max load
Big or Bust Report post Posted March 25, 2018 Run the numbers for a .620 to .697 BC at 2950 compared to your .505 to 700 yards, then run it at 2650 to 700 yards...
Red Rabbit Report post Posted March 25, 2018 A 130 hunting VLD out of the 6.5CM at 2850fps will have a better G7 BC of 0.288 vs 0.258 for the 140 VLD .277 (comparing equal sectional densities for apple to apples) Slightly better ballistics and about 30% less recoil than the .270Win of equal rifle weights. Put that 130 VLD in a 6.5 PRC for "more better" ballistics ;-)

Red Rabbit Report post Posted March 25, 2018 And it gets worse as you up the SD and bullets available... Yes. It was that 30% difference in recoil that got my attention that makes the 6.5 Creedmoor appealing to me with the apples to apples SD bullet comparison. Reminds me of when Carmichael was touting the 260 Rem as equal to the 270 Win. It is nice that the .277 bullets are finally getting some BC love though. I do wonder when a major rifle manufacturer will chamber the 6.5 PRC as it sits nicely between the 6.5 Creedmoor and 26 Nosler

452b264 Report post Posted April 30, 2018 If you use 165 gr. Matrix and reloader 26 or 23 you can get about 2880 to 2900 FPS max out of the 270 win. And its a thumper at distance. http://www.matrixballistics.com/.270-Caliber-hunting-bullets.html https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/270-win-165-gr-matrix-vld-performance-on-elk.160557/
