adddict Report post Posted December 17, 2007 Hey guys-- I am a muley fanatic at heart but lucked out and drew a December 34A tag this year. I hunted har last week and saw 10 deer, including a little 3x4 buck that wasn't too convincing for the first week! I hope you all don't mind me asking for advice but I know how tough it is to draw this tag and I don't plan on pulling another one anytime soon. I have been hunting mostly around Gardner Canyon Rd area and spent the majority of my time in the high foothills/snow level +/- 1000 feet. I saw tracks, a few beds, and the deer mentioned above but nothing to really get my blood flowing. I glassed from ridgetops from daylight to dark and froze my tail off. I did notice that most of the hunters were quite a bit lower in elevation on the range but didn't hear much/any shooting down low. My question is: Am I too high? Are there higher concentrations in the lower, rolling glassy hills or should I put my energy into the higher burns and oak brush to get away from other hunters? I am not asking for GPS coordinates but just a general nudge in the right direction. I personally loved the terrain I have been working but just haven't seen the numbers I was hoping for. I sincerely appreciate any advice you guys can share. Hope to run into a few of you on the mountain! Good luck!
SunDevil Report post Posted December 17, 2007 personally I would be in the foothills. this will give you the ability to glass up high but also down low. additionally, I would be trying to find a place with a good concentration of does. in the Dec hunt, where the does are is where the bucks are going to be. they may not be with them all the time but they will be waundering around checking on them. good luck. chris. Lance Report post Posted December 18, 2007 I like open glassable country. Too much brush and hidey holes are tough. You were hunting high and still saw several deer. Everyone else was hunting low and might be chasing deer up to where you were hunting. Give it another shot up high. Being a good glasser and being a good Coues glasser are two different things all together! If you are new to Coues, chances are that there are more deer there than what you saw. My best advice would be to take some more glassers with you! Teamwork it! Lance
