Coues Sniper Report post Posted December 19, 2007 That really sucks I was looking forward to seeing Serra get beat up. He seems like a nice guy but I think he got lucky knocking out GSP. Agreed. The Hughes/GSP fight should be a good one, but i think everyone wanted to see him matched up with Serra. And don't count Big Daddy Stevenson out so fast COUESAZ, i think he's going to surprise you! COUESAZ Report post Posted December 19, 2007 That is why i like this sport so much. All it takes is one fraction of a mistake and the fight can be over. Joe stevenson is great at his game on the ground and he is a power house in strength. If he can hang tough he will wear BJ down as BJ never seems to have enough stamina after he trys a few Submissins. The only problem i see him facing is the fact that he is going against one of the UFCs top take down defenders. You can twist Penn into a pretzel and have him standing on his one big toe and still he will not go down. His stand up game is way better than stevensons. Ask GSP about that. Joe stevenson is a Tuff son of a gun in no doubt. I would love to see him win I do not like spoiled BJ Pen at all. He was born with a silver spoon in the mouth. Most of the other fighters fight to make a life for their families.
mikep35 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 Its great to see so many mma fans on here! Although I have to disagree with most of you about Matt Hughes. I think he is a pompous a$$. One of his main reasons for taking the fight with GSP was because he took the fight on short notice. What kind of champion is that? If GSP had the normal amount of time to prepare for the fight I don't think Hughes would have a chance. It is awesome that he is hunter and what a stud of a buck. I would love to see Chuck knockout Wanderlei but I'm not sure thats going to happen. And as far as Rampage fighting Griffin, come on now, that fight will be a joke. COUESAZ Report post Posted December 20, 2007 At this point anyone fighting Rampage will be a joke. He is a mean ,big, tuff, son of a gun. Evryone is beatable but he will last a while as champ i bet. Matt had to pick someone to fight because of the fact that sera backed out. It is only right that he fight the second in the world, That is GSP. Matt flat out said sera is the number one and GSP is number two so it is only right that he fight the number two for this title and then who ever wins fights for the real title against sera. I would have to agree with you that Hugehs is a pompas person , But when you hold a belt for as long as he did you kind of have the right to say you are the best and fill that you are the best. There is a fighter every UFC that took a fight on short notice it seems. That just goes to show you that GSP is a true warior And GSP is always in top fighting shape. I do not know anyone on this earth that is as solid muscle as GSP is. It will be a good fight card no doubt. I will be in Thatcher and hope my inlaws will have a box rented so i can order the fight. mikep35 Report post Posted December 20, 2007 I have every respect in the world for Hughes and especially GSP for taking the fight on short notice. I think that my opinion of hughes really started toward the negative whenever I see him on the ultimate fighter. Whether its the way they portray him or not, he just seems like a pri#k. Anyway, I can't wait for the fight and if anyone has ever gone to the Rage In The Cage events they have here in the valley, I will be fighting in either March or April. Come out and support a fellow CWT member kick some a$$!
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 21, 2007 We will try and be there we go to the Rage in the cage every once in awhile. They called my brother and asked him to fight the heavy weight champ a couple months back, But he had to say no because of work and a neck injury.
mikep35 Report post Posted December 21, 2007 I train with the heavyweight champ. Rich Hale. He's an electrician like myself. Real nice guy. Trains his a$$ off.
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 29, 2007 My brother and I are plumbers so it would have been like a job site. Plumbers and Sparkies pushing each other around. Well i just watched the count down show . I can't wait for this one it should be a good bunch of fights. This is why UFC will be bigger than boxing because you pay for a bunch of fights and not just one big fight. Looking forward to the show. I got my steaks picked out and ready for the grill along with some fresh Bass from mexico.
mikep35 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Man that sounds good. I'm going to a friends house for a UFC/birthday party so it'll be a great time. I really hope chuck can pull it off but I don't think it will happen. Go chuck and GSP!
TAM Report post Posted December 29, 2007 I watched the countdown show last night as well. Anyone that can circuit train for 15 minutes with there nose plugged, breathing through a snorkel, only to finish by taking an ice bath has got to have some serious cardio and will power!!!! Obviously the fight could go either way but I'm picking Silvia, and I think it will be pretty one sided. That's just my guess. Hughes and GSP is going to be another real interesting fight. I think this will be a closer matched fight but Hughes will come out on top. I think Hughes/Serra will be a much better title fight than GSP/Serra.
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Tam i agree with you Silvia is a freak and one mean dude. He is a ruthless fighter and has beat Rampage twice, Chuck has lost to Rampage twice. Those are my thoughts on the GSP-vs- Hughes fight as well. Talk to ya all after the fights take place. We have the Fights evrey month at the house and every one pitches in to pay for the fight. They all bring their own food and Sodas ( no beer) . If anyone close to lindsay and southern needs a place to see the fight come on over with food and at least 5.00 to pay for your share of the fight.
mikep35 Report post Posted December 29, 2007 Its funny because Rampage beat Chuck twice, and Wanderlei destroyed Rampage, but Rampage beat Dan Henderson, who just destroyed Wanderlei Silva in their last Pride fight. Also, Shogun Rua killed Rampage, but lost to Forest Griffin! Now Forest is going to fight Rampage? Its like a "lets take turns beating each others a$$" round robin. COUESAZ Report post Posted December 30, 2007 WOW that went Good for Chuck and not so good for Matt. GSP just man handled Matt. I still hope they give Hughes a chance to fight sera before he goes strickly to coaching and not fighting.
TAM Report post Posted December 30, 2007 WOW is right! I didn't think Chuck could do it, and I thought that Matt could.......... Boy was I wrong! At least Manny G. won, and very impressively I might add. He said he thinks he broke that guys leg.... ouch! That was a nasty looking submission! I was really pulling for him last year against Nate Diaz. That fight was really going his way until his shoulder popped.
COUESAZ Report post Posted December 30, 2007 Yes Manny is a fire cracker for sure. He puts the heat on a whole fight and that is why he will do good. He just never gives the other guy anytime to think about what to do next. I am glad Chuck won by all means he has always been one of my favorite fighters. I just did not think he would pull it off. Matt on the other hand looked like he had no fight plan. If he did it went right out the window when GSP took him down the first time. He needs the fight against sera before he retires. I would not think any less of him to retire. At 34 he is getting up there in age to do this sport. I like the respect he gave GSP and he is right GSP is a better fighter. He will stay on top for a long time to come. One of the reasons i love this sport is it is always changing and the fighters are just getting faster, stronger.
