Dry Winter

Recommended Posts

After every one complaining about how tough the late season hunts were combined with the lack of rain I already started spreading rumors that all the critters have been killed off. 😃😃

I am worried about fawn survival if we don't get some good rains soon. I think could be lots of miscarriages from stress. I went backpacking last week for a couple days and I could not find any water in the canyons I went down. Had to hike back a few miles to a water source I new of. Crazy dry down south. I have never seen it this dry this time of year. Predators are going to be eating good.

I know it has to be on your mind.......what is this dry winter going to do to antler growth for this next year?

I wouldn't dwell on it still plenty of time for precipitation and antler growth is based 95% on genetics.

I sure hope you are right PRDATR. I remember in the early 2000's we had terrible winter moisture and very low snow pack. As a result, the bark beetles were not put in check and they had devastating effects on our forests. I can still remember looking out over the Rim and seeing a forest of red trees as they were dying.

Weather Whether. Yes Knothead sufficient moisture and the trees stay healthy and retain enough moisture to produce the sap in amounts to fend off beetles.

So does a good Forrest fire, so whats your point. Fires are the best thing that happen to a forrest, sucks that there is peoples homes that get destroyed though.

BTW bark Beatles don't effect antler growth

"BTW bark Beatles don't effect antler growth"

Never said it did. I was referring to the health of the forest. I do agree fires are healthy but when they are slow, low burning fires. Crowning fires like you get when there is lots of fuel from dead trees is not nearly as good and usually moves too fast and cause lots of destruction.
