rossislider Report post Posted December 28, 2017 One of my boys got screwed because he wasn't 10 when he took hunter safety. They said you had to be 10 for it to count. Oh well we went and did our thing anyway. F em. He never did retake the course. He's 22 now. Daughter took the hunter ed course when she was 9 Yeah, something isn't right here. The can definitely take Hunter Education as soon as they are 9. My kids did it this way.
Roosevelt Mark Report post Posted December 28, 2017 I fought tooth and nail with them, they gave him a participant certificate which he ripped up and threw it away. We did our end of the deal but they didn't come through for us. So he hunted aNY way.
AZJR Report post Posted August 1, 2018 The age to complete Hunter Education in AZ was moved to 9 several years back. From your post it looks like your son would have taken the class approximately 12 years ago, hence the instructor providing a Participation Certificate at that time. Situations like yours was why the Department changed the rules to allow for 9 year olds to participate in our Hunter Education Courses.
awatson Report post Posted August 1, 2018 This is probably a computer glich. I think you could mail in the app, get a tag, and hunt after her Birthday, but I could be wrong
PRDATR Report post Posted August 1, 2018 This is probably a computer glich. I think you could mail in the app, get a tag, and hunt after her Birthday, but I could be wrong Have to be 10 before the start of the hunt. So if the hunt starts on say the 25th and the kid is 10 on the 25th it's a no go. At least that is how it has been explained to me.

You are correct, I confirmed this with multiple individuals at AZGFD. We were bummed at first because my daughter had to miss the youth hunts by 1 day. But it ended up working out for the better, much better, as she was rewarded with a 3C deer tag for two weeks after her birthday. It will be a pretty great first hunt for her.

jim Report post Posted August 1, 2018 Congrats on the tag. The youth hunts seem to harder to draw than some of the regular tags.
