huntech Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I received a letter in the mail today from the Tucson Rod and Gun Club (I am not a member so I don't know how they knew who I am?) asking for donations for a shooting range in the Reddington pass area. What does everyone think about this idea? will it mean that those shooting spots now that are so filfthy will be cleaned up and no one will be allowed to shoot there? will it mean a paved Redington road is in our future? Leading to more people and less hunting areas. I am not saying I dissagree with a range up there it would have a lot of benefits but I am not going to say I agree with it either. what does everyone else think? coues7 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I vote to do something out there......that place is a dump due to dumb a$$ people. They definitely need to do something. Most of the people that go out there to shoot would NEVER EVER go to a range. The range that the AZGFD has out on vail has super strict (SAFE) shooting etiquette.....something half the retards out on Reddington would never obey....thus they wouldn't use the range. We need to get the Pima County Sherriff's office out of the Donut wheel and get them out there to lay down strict fines for those that can't handle themselves or the cleanup after they've shot a computer screen. I see the AZGFD out there but it's not near enough! WE DON'T NEED MORE LAWS......THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS NEED TO STRICTLY STRICTLY ENFORCE THE ONES WE HAVE!!!!!! And for sure don't pave the dang road out there!!!! Coues7
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I dont really mind the idea of a range up there but I do think it will change a lot of things. lots more people equals more rules and more hassle. but if you do not break the law you have nothing to worry about right? well what happens when a guy wants to go up and sight in his rifle or let his kid shoot a gun for the first time and doesnt want to do it with a crowd of people around him or a guy testing loads who may only be shooting 10 rounds or so and doesn't want to pay to go to a range. Will it still be legal to pull off the road and shoot? I do agree that those shooting areas are very trashy I have shot there once or twice but have never left trash and have sometimes picked up trash. but I would still like the freedom to not have to go to a range if I dont want to. SunDevil Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I think they should make it a pay use area. Require a $25 dollar a year fee. Hire a couple of people to pick the trash up during the week and write tickets on the weekend. Simple as that.
Redman Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Its a good idea, but at the expense of another area. The yahoos that now leave trash behind, shoot signs, cattle, etc. will just go somewhere else. I like the idea Sundevil had, require a pass (like Tonto), Redman
coues7 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I am completely against more fees! I pay enough in taxes and fuel cost.....that's the last thing I need.....another FEE. We need law enforcement to enforce existing laws. Those littering fines arean't cheap......hit the dumb a$$es in the pocket book not us!
huntech Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I dont think we should have to pay to use the land we already pay enough. I do agree that we nee more law enforcement up there. but we got a little off the original topic. what do you all think about a pay range up there good and bad? coues7 Report post Posted December 12, 2007 I think a shooting range out there would be great......BUT it may migrate an existing problem further in (towards the mountains), of which I would be against.
SunDevil Report post Posted December 12, 2007 unfortunately I do not think litter patrol is a high priority for any agency (sheriff, forest service, etc) and it is hard to prove. unless they see the person doing the dumping or dump something that has their name on it is impossible to prove. billrquimby Report post Posted December 12, 2007 Reddington Pass seems like such an out-of-the-way place. For those who live on the northwest side of town as I do it's at least an hour away. Bill Quimby
muledeerarea33? Report post Posted December 12, 2007 All the other sides of town already have ranges. I dont want to be the one to say the "F" word but I think the shooting spots up there now should be fenced off but as we all know one fence leads to another an soon it will all be fenced off so maybe not such a good idea
Traveler Report post Posted December 13, 2007 I really miss being able to shoot on the Tonto forest closer to Mesa. I would take my kids and wife out there several times a year and have a family shoot. We would alway bring back a bag or two of trash from the less considerates and the kids had fun picking up all strange crap you find out there. Since the closure of Target shooting in the Forest areas closer to Mesa we rarely get out to shoot as family. Public Shooting Ranges are not kid friendly and it is now more of a time commitment to drive to where you can shoot on public land. Eliminating public shooting areas is just one more step towards less shooters and increased gun control laws. I agree that enforcement is the answer. An undercover ranger citing everyone who litters is a much better solution. my .
Diamondbackaz Report post Posted December 20, 2007 I grew up with the TRGC but have no desire to drive up that POS road.
