PRDATR Report post Posted November 24, 2017 I'd be interested in that quick clot. Have a son who has more stitches in his tongue than most ever get in their person. He has many - on the head, legs, arms, fingers... Too many stories to tell. Just grateful we've had someone willing to stitch him up on the dining room table, or pull steel splinters out of his eye - several times. http://www.basspro.com/shop/SearchDisplay?categoryId=&storeId=715838534&catalogId=3074457345616676768&langId=-1&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&pageView=&beginIndex=0&pageSize=12&searchTerm=QuikClot#facet:&productBeginIndex:0&facetLimit:&orderBy:&pageView:grid&minPrice:&maxPrice:&pageSize:& https://www.walmart.com/ip/QuikClot-Advance-Clotting-Gauze-3-x-24-2pk/38251462?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=22222222227026483328&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42971405792&wl4=pla-81463977152&wl5=9030029&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=38251462&wl13=&veh=sem
300RUM Report post Posted November 25, 2017 Quit gutting them then You are dead on with that one. With the gutless method your hands and the knife are in sight. There is a lot less chance of screwing up when you can see what you're doing.
300RUM Report post Posted November 25, 2017 For anybody wanting high quality cut-resistant gloves companies like Grainger will carry them. They are commonly worn by employees working around sharp blades in Industrial applications. Some of them can get pretty exotic. At one time I did some independent Contracting for a company that did a lot of ballistic armor work. The guys who operated the saw that cut the sheets of Spectra or Kevlar wore gloves that were made out of fine interlocking stainless steel links, kind of like medieval chainmail armor. 452b264 Report post Posted November 25, 2017 I sold my replaceable blade knife, they have no back bone so you cant feel what the knife is doing or where the blade is.
goinhuntn Report post Posted November 25, 2017 I use my Havalon or outdoor edge for trimming only. I have a nice buck knife for gutting & skinning.

I have been trying to put my finger on it to explain that to other people.

For my son's taxidermy euro business. he uses Havalon because the are razor sharp, about 1/4 the price to buy in bulk, and are fantastic for caping skulls. In the field I pack the Outdoor Edge for the reasons you mention.
Big or Bust Report post Posted November 26, 2017 The outdoor edge blades IME, dull 3x faster. I use them simply because of the much easier and safer blade changing....
Big Browns Report post Posted November 26, 2017 I completely agree with Greg. The Outdoor edge knife blades dull much faster than the Havelon, but have a much easier blade removal.
Az_Outdoors Report post Posted November 26, 2017 Recently I wanted to I do a euro mount for my wife and all I had was a used outdoor edge knife that was pretty dull. I tried running it over a steele and was really surprised how well it sharpened back up and lasted.

Sometimes I think they are sharper after I run them over my sharpening/buffing wheel than they were originally.
