HyNoon Report post Posted November 13, 2017 I have Several Benchmade knives and love them all ,But my only complaint is that they do not hold the edge very well. I am not sure about that particular knife nor have I used it. This is just my experience with my other Benchmade blades. They do hold an edge better than most but I have never thought or had to use any on an animal with the models I have at least.
Mr. Natural Report post Posted November 13, 2017 For skinning, Havalon Piranta. For working around bone, removing lower legs, heads, and what not, I have broken a blade or two doing that with the Havalon. Something a bit stouter is nice for that stuff. I love my Benchmade 510 DP (fixed) and my Mini Griptilian (folder). I have a beautiful Helle Besseggen that I have not christened with blood yet.
wildwoody Report post Posted November 14, 2017 I've also gone to hunter orange handles because I'm sick of losing them on the kill.

Cell4soul Report post Posted November 14, 2017 This is the set I bought prior to my Wyoming trip and couldn't be happier with the purchase. Warning....the blades are sharp! I gutted and skinned 2 antelope and didn't even go through 1 blade. The bone saw worked great for the chest bones and pelvis. The gut hook sliced through the skin like butter. I highly doubt a custom or high end knife would do a better job and I don't have to ever sharpen this.
JakeUSMC Report post Posted November 16, 2017 I use a benchmade hidden canyon. Works amazing. I bought it while 3 years ago and finally used it this year on an elk and mule deer. Super sharp and great for skinning! I would recommend it to anyone. It is also small and light and feels very solid in your hand. comes with a sturdy sheath too! Edge Report post Posted November 22, 2017 Why not make your own? I started several tonight from 4140 steel given to me by 5GuysHuntin. Just got to work on the bevel and grip some more and add the ironwood scales. Etch ol Glory into the blade and ready for late rifle elk.
oz31p Report post Posted November 22, 2017 Ive never used or handled these listed but besides the havalon witch is a great skining knife take a look at cutco. I received a set of anogramed cutco hunting knives as a gift . A clip point # 5719 and get hook #5717bk. Far and away the best skining knifes. The smooth blade clip point holds and edge forever and sharpens easy. My gut hook has the double d serrated edge. It the best they have free lifetime sharpening but Ive only sent them I. Once because I hacked an elk leg bone and chipped the serenaded blade. It didnt really affect its performance but they repaired it for free just the same.Cutco stuff is top notch...have a set of kitchen knives and received a pocket knife as a gift. Love it. Im an outdoor edge/havalon fan for skinning but I imagine the cutco knives are great.I just skinned and quarter my bull with my cutco #5717bk double d serrated. Its still just as sharp. Ready to go again.
