CatfishKev Report post Posted November 10, 2017 So does the inherent accuracy of this gun in the 6.5CM caliber transfer to other calibers? 6.5 seems like a no brainer but I'm thinking about 7mm stainless. Any other calibers right out the box shooting as well?

Any other calibers right out the box shooting as well? For a 7mm stainless you might look at the Remington Sendero. I dont know much about the predator. Here is a 5 shot group at 100 yards with my 7mm sendero. These were my own loads.
CatfishKev Report post Posted November 10, 2017 I'm not hung up on the 7mm or stainless. Just kind of wondering. I'm already sure I'm probably getting one for my youngster about to turn 10. I was told by Bigorange that another member here got a 7-08 that shoots great groups as well.
bigorange Report post Posted November 10, 2017 Pretty sure th 7-08 was a Ruger Compact. The Predator doesn’t come in 7-08...
5guyshunting Report post Posted November 10, 2017 The Sendero is definitely not a kids gun unless your carrying it.

PRDATR Report post Posted November 11, 2017 I wouldn't be too concerned with getting a rifle that shoots bug holes for a child. At that age run of the mill accuracy is just fine until they are old enough to grasp the concept of killing a big game animal for themselves. Sorry, but I see way too many parents with deep pockets letting children snipe animals at ridiculous distances to feed their egos instead of giving them a capable rifle and letting them walk the opposite ridge by themselves within sight and learning the skills on their own. Off Soapbox.
Hoss50 Report post Posted November 11, 2017 6.5 gets it done. It is a great round all around even for kids.

CatfishKev Report post Posted November 11, 2017 Thanks for the replies. Overall I guess I'm just fascinated by a $350 gun that shoots amazing right out the box. I don't plan on trying to make my kids super snipers or anything just asking. It really just comes down to money for me. I'm a dude with 5 kids and I have to make it stretch. The side note is I need to replace my stolen (and only) hunting rifle. I was just hoping that accuracy applied to rugers stainless 7mm as well since that's the caliber I want for myself. If I can get that quality for 300 less then a tikka then that should be awesome. If not I'll probably go with the tikka.

Off Soapbox. Yep just what he said! Yeah stick the weapon in a claw or clamp and let a kid shoot 400+ yrds and let them be proud... they just squeezed the trigger. Just sayin!
Explorer Report post Posted November 11, 2017 Howa/vanguard is another sub moa rifle to be had for a good price. Have not heard anything bad about the american, but every one I looked at had a warped stock. Touching the barrel on one side or the other. Purchased a savage axis for my son, not to impressed but it shoots good for a 12 year old to hit a target at 200 yards. Then again, I was raised on surplus mausers with piles of surplus ammo and open sights. Those were the days.

Mine just barely touches the barrel on the left side which seems to be the most common side. Lots of posts on 6.5 forums about lightly sanding the stock to eliminate this contact and also recommending first upgrade to a new stock. Mine is dead on at 200 without even trying despite the stock contact.
