12v trail cam betteries

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with 12v batteries for tail cams. I was thinking about using a 12v atv bettery and the cord for a trail cam. I havent ever seen a 12v kit in person, and i thought it would be lighter than the kits they sell specifically for trail cams. I want a 12v setup for cameras that are a ways back in, to last a while. I dont think the cameras matter, but i am using wildviews. Does anybody know how many pics i can expect to get out of a 12v rig. I know the flash burns up alot. I had a few spikes wallowing around in my salt all night and the camera took about 100 flash pics. I just had 4 C's in it, it didnt kill the batteries, but the low battery light was on. I was looking for something that could last through a few nights like this in about a 2 month period.

As far as I know most of the cameras work on 6 volt.

I have rechargable batteries in mine with solar chargers.

They have worked well.

I have gone back to check my cameras after 3-4 weeksand the battery is around 90%

I have a true test coming up. If I still own them

I have had 2 cams out since September without checking them.

I know, shame on me :(

I am sure the memory cards are full.

Anyway, Rechargable and solar is the way to go.

Your talking abou SLA's, sealed lead acid. Similar to quad, motorcycle type 12v except smaller. They work very well, I have used them on my 12v stealthcam. Cold temps have affected the performance at times. Do a search fro 12v SLA and you should find plenty of resources. Here is a good trail cam webpage that has solar panels, batteries, and chargers for a good price http://www.whitetailsupply.com/Batteries-Chargers.html GOOD LUCK!

I have used 12 v batteries for years with a solar charger on them I use a battery similar to ones used on those little jeeps kids can drive . I get them at batteries plus in Chandler . I use a solar charger I get at Harbor Freight . I get the parts at Radio Shack to make the pig tail .I have never had a dead battery and have left them out for 4 or more months without any trouble and had my 512 mb card full this is the only way to go . you can get the battery for about $17.95 and the charger for $11.95 . I have some batteries that are 2 or more years old . you can burn a lot of batteries in two years .

The cold will affect all batteries but with a charger on them they will never go dead

Im with gamehauler on this, get the rechargeable battery with solar panel. You can get the panel for $15 and the battery for 10 out at Cabelas.

Also Walmart has the 2Gb memory cards for $12 right now, I grabbed two at that price.
