AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Ok, I recently purchased a tikka ctr 6.5 creedmore (20" barrel) and zeroed it 3.5" high at 100 yards. When I put all of my information into the app, it tells me my zero is 253 yards. However, the app doesn't factor in my zero being 3.5" high at 100 yards. I've always sighted my rifles in 3-4" high at 100 yards in the past, but I'm new to the long range shooting. So my question is, should I zero my rifle in to shoot dead on at 100 yards, or leave it at 3.5" high? It tells me now that at 300 yards my bullet drop will be 4.6" (5.9 clicks) at 300 yards which seems correct to me. Hopefully this question makes since. Again, I'm new to this long range stuff so any help would be appreciated. Bullet info: 6.5 Creedmore 143gr eld-x 2550fps Ballistic coefficient 0.625 Thx 👍
bigorange Report post Posted October 18, 2017 What does it say your rise would be at 100 if it says zero is 253? Id be interested in seeing your overall numbers since Im shooting same ammo and similar FPS out of a Ruger.
DesertBull Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Select rifle then scroll down to zero offset. enter +3.5 in the vertical offset box Make sure your zero distance is set to 100 yards Strelok is very frustrating to me. I probably would like it more if I spent more time with it.
thegunsmith2506 Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Click on the button where you select which scope you use. There is an option for zero distance. I sight in 3in high at 100yds and it works for me.

AZHUNTER05 Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Ok, I think I figured it out. I have my zero at 100 with my 3.5" vertical. It tells me my drop at 300 will be 4.6". My friend who suggested the app told me not to use the vertical and to put 253 as my zero since that was what the app told me it was. I received the same drop/clicks at 300 yards when I compared the two different ways to do it. So it should be on. Thx for the help guys!
kwp Report post Posted October 18, 2017 Make sure your scope height is entered correctly. That can have a huge impact on the calculated drop
STOMP442 Report post Posted October 18, 2017 I have found it best to get a good hard zero at 100 yards. This way you minimize effects of wind and other environmental factors. If you are using a scope to dial your dope I don't know why you wouldn't just dial for anything beyond 300 yards. Sounds like either way you got it figured out but I find it easiest to zero at 100. I find my app seems to produce better calculations at longer ranges when done this way as well.
forepaw Report post Posted October 18, 2017 You might be making it too complicated. Zero your rifle at 200 yds. Make sure you record good weather data - very important - and velocity - also important. Make sure you know your scope height above your bore centerline. Once you have that, you can make all kinds of changes in terms of weather, wind, distance etc., and it will calc. everything against your original zero. I have found Strelok pretty easy to use, and very accurate, most of the time very close if not dead nuts. forepaw
yotebuster Report post Posted October 19, 2017 I always set my zero at 100 yards. Then based on the hunting situation I can adjust it as needed for quick shots. Typically I will put it 2moa up which gives me a decent point blank range out to 250 or so and anything beyond that Im gonna dial anyhow. I get really nervous about a zero beyond 200 as it puts yornrifle toonhigh at 100. 3.5 high at 100 is a wounded critter for a lot of animals.
trphyhntr Report post Posted October 19, 2017 What is the advantage of sighting them in high at 100 for the shooting apps?
Big or Bust Report post Posted October 19, 2017 There's not... Only real thing it does is it saves you scope adjustment for longer stuff.... The only advantage really is longer MPBR, which is the opposite of running turrets...
